G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, the live-action movie adaptation of the GI Joe saga, hits screens this August 2009. Here are excerpts from an interview with Dennis Quaid, who will play General Hawk in this upcoming film.

Q&A: DENNIS QUAIDQ: You are playing General Hawk in G.I. Joe. Can you talk a little bit about how you came to that project and what that is going to be all about?
Quaid: They offered me to be in that about a month ago, and I think it will be a lot of fun to do.

Why?
Quaid: Because it's G.I. Joe. I grew up with G.I. Joe and it's basically kind of a cartoon thing. It's a big popcorn type of tent pole, action movie, which really isn't deep. The character General Hawk that I'm playing is really kind of a cross between Chuck Yeager, Sergeant Rock, and maybe a naïve Hugh Hefner thrown in there. General Hawk ate the canvas, he has a Victoria Secret super model. How serious can it be?

A lot of people are wondering, with the material, that it's going to be an action film. How are you going to do the bloodless action? Is this a Rated "R" movie? There are a lot of questions from fans about how the material will be dealt with.
Quaid: Well, how do you do Spider-Man without blood? Basically it's the same deal.

You start next week (on G.I. Joe). Have you done any sort of rehearsals? Have you had to train on any weapons? Also, can you tell us what the movie is about?
I really don't know what it's about. It's set a little bit in the future. The Joe's are this international Special Forces type of group. They mainly fight these terrorist groups that spring up. The movie is more like James Bond. The group is the specter, there is this evil mastermind behind it, and I think it's going to be more like the old James Bonds. Like "Dr. No" where the mastermind has his own private island and all these people are wearing magic cover alls.

Are you going to have a flat top as General Hawk?
No, I don't think so. Special forces, I can do anything I want, so I think I'm actually doing a little blonde, Robert Redford-ish type of thing.

Have you done any training or rehearsals for the "Joe" project?
I'm getting more buff.

Do you work out everyday?
I take a little human growth hormone every morning. I lie around and watch the babies. [Laughs]

And you have an action figure?
Yeah, an action figure, that's right. I've already been an action figure. I'll have another one.

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures.
