Netizens are calling out a Pinoy Big Brother Otso contestant for making an insensitive remark about the LGBTQ+ community.
PBB Otso contestant Sansan Dagumampan gets criticized for calling bisexuals "kadiri."
On November 29, YouTube user Philippines For Great posted a 42-minute clip on the video sharing platform titled “Star Dreamers Nagkaalitan sa Practice November 29, 2018.”
Star Dreamers are PBB Otso contestants who are living in Camp Star Hunt, a place outside the main PBB house. They aren’t official housemates yet, and are vying for a spot to move to the main house by completing challenges in Camp Star Hunt.
The video clip captured a part of the 24-hour livestream, a component of the show where viewers can watch a live video feed of the show online. It is not confirmed when the event happened, but it is sure to have happened this week because Reign Parani can be seen in it. Reign, a Star Dreamer from Canada, only entered the show last Sunday, November 25.
THE CONVERSATION. At the start of the video, the Star Dreamers were talking about bisexuals, members of the LGBTQ+ community who get attracted to both males and females.
The scene shows Star Dreamers Sansan and Missy sitting on the couch in the living room area, while Krist and Reign were on the floor in front of them.
Sansan was first to speak. She said, “Sobrang pogi ng lalaki tapos bisexual.”
Off-screen, a male Star Dreamer said, “Sayang.” The male Star Dreamer might be Ali, Achilles or Kurt, but it is not easy to know because the speaker cannot be seen.
Sansan looked at the male Star Dreamer who spoke and signaled that she agreed.
Missy then said, “Di naman, kasi kung bisexual, pwede babae.”
But Sansan cut her off, and declared, “Pero kadiri kaya.”
Missy stopped her by tapping her arm. She told Sansan, “Uy. Kung masaya sila dun.”
Sansan cut her off again and said, “Kadiri kaya yung pumapatol ka sa babae at sa lalaki.”
Krist and Reign looked uncomfortable with the conversation so they changed the topic to their audition process and their upcoming task.
THE REACTION. As of now, the YouTube video has a total of 24,480 views and 228 comments. The comments were mostly negative and critical of Sansan’s words. Many were calling her undeserving of being a housemate, and there were those who wished that she gets removed from the ABS-CBN reality show.
The video has also been reposted on Facebook and Twitter.
Makeup artist Jannel Camerino has reposted the video on his Facebook account, where it has received 823,000 views.
There were some commenters who praised Missy for trying to educate Sansan. They consider Missy as an advocate of the rights of bisexuals and LGBTQ+ members.
Twitter user mark geronimo @markgeronimo_ has also posted the video on his Twitter account. His repost has been viewed 577,000 times, has almost 4700 retweets and 24,000 likes.
Other Twitter users made harsher comments against Sansan by insulting her looks and personality.
Some Twitter users are also calling for ABS-CBN to remove Sansan from Camp Star Hunt.
Amidst this barrage of hate comments, many LGBTQ+ advocates are asking the community to temper the hate and try to be more understanding.
i dont wanna add more hate to this girl sansan, she’ll find her way out. it’s just unfair for bisexual people like myself who have always found it hard to explain ourselves & our sexuality to others & then just be called ‘kadiri’.
