Did Kara Mia prevail over Ang Probinsyano in the ratings game?

GMA 7’s new prime-time series Kara Mia aired its pilot episode last night, February 18, 2019. The series replaced Cain and Abel and is now pitted against ABS-CBN’s Ang Probinsyano.

The hashtag #KaraMia ranked first on the list of local trending topics on Twitter.

Barbie Forteza and Mika dela Cruz play extraordinary twins in this new Kapuso teleserye.

Directed by Dominic Zapata, Kara Mia is a fantasy-drama about Kara and Mia who have two faces shared by one body. Kara can be seen in the front and Mia at the back. Later, they will discover how to separate from each other every morning while going back to their original form at night.

In Kara Mia, Barbie portrays Kara, the bright and always positive sister, while Mika brings life to Mia, the ambitious hidden sister.

The pilot episode opens with a fight scene between Kara and Mia. Kara was running away because she did not want to go with their father while Mia wanted to be with him.

The sisters kept on slapping each other and pulling the hair of their shared body while arguing at an overpass.

While fighting, the twins suddenly fell and they were saved by Mike Tan who plays Iswal, a mischievous engkanto. Iswal tells them: "Mga anak ko kayo. Sumama na kayo sa akin. Matagal ko nang pinangarap ito na makumpleto ang pamilya natin, mula nang masilayan ko ang inyong ina."

A flashback then showed what happened in Bacolod in 1999 when Kara and Mia’s parents met. Iswal (Mike Tan), an engkanto who becomes obsessed with Aya (played by Carmina Villarroel) upon seeing her for the first time. Aya visited her yaya in the province because she said she got burned out while studying Medicine.

Arthur (John Estrada) crosses paths with Aya. At first, Aya didn’t like Arthur because she thought he was making fun of her but unknown to her, it is actually Iswal playing tricks on her.

Arthur and Aya eventually hit it off while exploring the province of Bacolod for three months.

Arthur already wanted to marry Aya but his former girlfriend Julia (played by Glydel Mercado) overheard his plan.

Julia followed Aya while Aya was in the woods. Julia then confronted Aya and said she can’t marry Arthur. Her anger caused her to push Aya and left her to drown in a lake.

Iswal heard Aya’s cry for help and saved her. Unable to contain his feelings and with Aya still unconscious, Iswal took advantage of the moment and kissed her.

The scene was fast forward to Aya dressing up after a bath. She suddenly realized that her underwear was missing. Upon learning about the missing panty, her yaya suddenly felt uneasy and frightened.

According to her, this situation only happens when there is a bad spirit or element nearby. It is believed that girls who lose their underwear will suddenly disappear without a trace. Her yaya then closed the window and placed a rosary to ward off a "masamang elemento." She reminded Aya not to open the window.
