The highlight of the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival is the staging of Katy! The Musical Concert that will happen on December 27 at 8:30 p.m. The special event will take place at Harbor Garden Tent, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.
Katy! The Musical Concert is very different from Katy! The Musical that was staged 20 years ago. This time, they will present Katy! again in a different way.
Ayon sa bumubuo ng MMFF, nag-iisip sila sa kung ano ang magandang presentation after the awards. Last year, concert ni Lani Misalucha ang ginawang highlight ng MMFF. This time, ang Katy! The Musical Concert naman ang highlight kunsaan isa lang ang gaganap na Katy dela Cruz pero ang lahat ng female singers will get the chance to sing Katy's song.
Naniniwala silang malaki ang kaugnayan ni Katy sa MMFF dahil lahat ng napapanood natin ngayon, it all started with Katy being the vaudeville queen.
On this note, KC Concepcion will be appearing as Katy and she will be depicting the love story of Katy with Jericho Rosales as Peping. The two lead stars will sing the song Awit Ko Para Sa ‘Yo.
Ang Katy! The Musical Concert will start with Katy entering the stage in her full glory when she was around sixty years old. Ina-narrate niya ang kanyang buhay at pag-ibig sa mundo ng entablado being of course, the vaudeville queen through the opening song, Ang Entablado ay Mundo Ang Mundo ay entablado.
During her childhood, ang mga kantang Batang Katy, Pahiram ng Kanta, Tale, Tale, Pahiram ng Kanta, Tupada ang maririnig at mapapanood.
When she becomes a teenager, there will be songs like Pahiram ng Kanta, Tingnan Mo Nga Naman at Bituwing Tahimik kunsaan, nagsisimula na rin ang vaudeville career ng namayapang reyna ng entablado.
The late Mary Walter was also part of Katy's life when the two became friends and it all happened during Katy's love life with Peping. Dito na rin papasok ang mga kantang Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako, Awit Ko Para Sa Yo.
During World War II when Katy appeared again after eloping with Peping, now with a child, inakala ni Katy na baka hindi na siya matanggap pang muli ng tao. But the people just loved her even more when she sang Balut in a most unusual way and she continues to become an even bigger star.
Nagkaroon naman siya ng offer to sing in San Francisco wherein, Katy dela Cruz was introduced as Katy Lee. Kahit may bago siyang screen name, buong ningning na sinabi ni Katy na siya ay isang Filipino and that she's proud of it. Minahal pa rin siya ng American audience.
Sa finale ng concert, all the singers who portrayed Katy will sing together and be joined by rest of the cast in the final rousing rendition of Minsan ang Minahal Ay Ako.
Pagsasama-samahin sa Katy! The Musical Concert ang iba't-ibang forms of art tulad ng theater, sine at musika. Ang Katy! ay galing sa panulat ni Joey Javier Reyes at sa musika ni Ryan Cayabyab.
It's a fund-raising event kunsaan, during the press conference, inamin nilang most of the artists cooperate with them by not giving them their "real" talent fees.
For the 34th edition of the Metro Manila Film Fest, the awards night will be divided in three parts: the first part is the red carpet wherein stars come in. The second part is the awarding ceremony. And the third part is Katy! the Musical concert.
Sa third part, everybody will be requested to leave the venue and only those with tickets are allowed to enter again and watch the Katy! The Musical Concert while having dinner at Sofitel Hotel.
The performers in Katy! are KC Concepcion, Jericho Rosales, Mitch Valdez, Dulce, Eugene Villaluz, Rachel Alejandro, Bituin Escalante, Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos, Maricris Garcia, Frenchie Dy, Sitti, Gian Magdangal, Gab Valenciano, and Jennylyn Mercado.
Tickets to Katy! (with dinner) are priced at P10,000 for silver, P15,000 for gold and P20,000 for platinum.
