American rock band The Killers has announced on its official website the cancellation of their scheduled Asian tour due to the "illness of a close family member."
The Las Vegas-based quartet was supposed to play in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo and Seoul as part of their world tour dating back since last year.
Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer, and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. were initially booked to perform here in Manila on January 31 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City. MCA Music even drummed up the upcoming event by launching and promoting the band's first official DVD release titled The Killers: Live from the Royal Albert Hall.
"The band deeply apologizes to their fans and hopes to reschedule their shows in these cities soon, we hope you understand and respect our privacy at this difficult time," the statement reads.
Spared from the cancellation are the band's scheduled Australia shows slated for next month.
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was informed by TicketWorld that they are now refunding payments placed by ticket holders.
Formed in 2002, The Killers has released four albums, namely, Hot Fuss (2004), Sam's Town (2006), Saw Dust (2007), and Day and Age (2008). Some of the band's popular singles include "Mr. Brightside," "Human," "Somebody Told Me," and the New Moon track "A White Demon Love Song."
The cancellation of the Asian leg tour coincides with the breakup rumors surrounding the band. In previous interviews given, the group members have mentioned their desire to take an indefinite leave from the scene after the world tour.
