Students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños
recently hosted the Gandingan 2009: UPLB Isko't Iska's Broadcast Choice Awards.
Now on its third edition, this is the first award-giving ceremony in the field
of broadcasting instituted by Community Broadcasters' Society of UPLB.
Founded in 2007, the Gandingan is the first and only UP-based awards that aims
to recognize outstanding broadcasters and broadcast programs in the country chosen
by UPLB students.
The awarding ceremony was held last January 24 at the D.L. Umali Hall, UPLB Campus in Laguna. ABS-CBN took home 14 awards while GMA-7 reaped a total of 12 awards.
For three consecutive years, the Kapamilya Network received the highest honor of Best TV Station as well as trophies for Best AM Station (DZMM), Best FM Station (Alam mo na yan 101.9) and Best Music Station (MYX).
"This award is an inspiration for the whole ABS-CBN management. We assure you that we in ABS-CBN give importance to this recognition. We are honored to receive the Best Station of the Year for three straight years and we are looking forward to being here again next year," said ABS-CBN Production Development and Control Head Linggit Tan, who received the Best TV Station of the Year award in behalf of the Lopez-owned network.
For the third straight year, ABS-CBN won the Best News Anchor award for Korina Sanchez, Best Disk Jock for Martin D, Best Video Jock for Iya Villana and Best Talk Show Host for Boy Abunda.
Completing the awards of ABS-CBN are Best Morning Show for Umagang Kay Ganda, Most Development-Oriented Panel Discussion Program for Harapan, Best Panel Moderator for Ted Failon and two-time awardees Best AM Announcer for Korina Sanchez, Most Development-Oriented AM Radio Station for DZMM and Best Talk Show for Boy & Kris.
KAPUSO AWARDS. GMA Network's longest-running
documentary program, I-Witness, won in two categories: the Most
Development-Oriented Public Affairs Program Category and the Most Development-Oriented
Documentary Program Category.
One of its hosts, Howie Severino, won the Best Documentary Filmmaker award.
Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho was recognized as the Most Development-Oriented Magazine Program. Program host Jessica Soho got two awards: the Best Public Affairs Program Host and the Best Magazine Program Host.
Mike Enriquez won the Best Investigative Program Host award while his show Imbestigador bagged the Best Investigative Program award.
Jiggy Manicad, GMA Senior News Producer, copped the Best Field Reporter plum;
Vicky Morales was named Best Public Service Program Host; and her program Wish
Ko Lang! was awarded Best Public Service Program.
Meanwhile, GMA-7's sister channel, Q Channel 11, was named
the Most Development-Oriented TV Station.
