Starting this April, the award-winning indie film Sa Ilalim ng Cogon will now be available locally courtesy of Videoflick Productions, Inc.
Sa Ilalim ng Cogon (Beneath the Cogon) stars Yul Servo, Julia Clarete, Dido dela Paz, Raul Morit, Eugie Rodriguez, Ramon Bautista, with the special participation of Joel Torre. The film is directed by Rico Maria Ilarde and produced by Mammu Chua and US-based producer Roger Garcia. Cinematography is by Louie Quirino, production design by Fritz Silorio, music by Malek Lopez, and editing by Ron Dale.
This movie, directed by Rico Maria Ilarde, is about a former soldier named Sam (Yul) searching for his missing ex-wife. Seeking refuge, he finds himself hiding inside a creepy, run-down mansion standing amidst a sea of tall cogon grass. He meets the young, sexy Katia (Julia) and begins a passionate and torrid affair with this mysterious and enigmatic girl. In the process, he gets involved in a violent heist that ends in a deadly double-cross.
Direk Rico informed PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that Sa Ilalim ng Cogon has been invited to six film festivals since it came out in 2005. "We have been invited to Uruguay for the Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival. It will be shown [in Uruguay] in March 2007," says the director.
A delayed DVD release will follow soon—a local standard procedure to offset piracy.
