The past two years saw former Twisted Halo frontman Vin Dancel getting his groove back and writing songs carrying a different sound for his new rock band Peryodiko. This month marks hectic days ahead for Peryodiko as the band launches its self-titled debut album and holds gigs around Metro Manila.

After several changes in lineup, the band's final roster is composed of Ebe Dancel's brother, guitarist Kakoy Legaspi, bassist Simon Tan, and drummer Abe Billano.

Legaspi formerly played with Rivermaya and Barbie's Cradle. Tan has worked with Noel Cabangon, Lynn Sherman, Affinity and Lampano Alley. Billano, on the other hand, played with Cagayan de Oro-based contemporary rock outfit Nuncyspungen. "Though the roster of the band is indeed unquestionably talented, one will notice that theirs is a group that has experienced it all: both mainstream success and a sort of street credibility to them," said music critic Joey Dizon.

Peryodiko's debut album is moving and melodic with the lightness of a touch that is as alternative as it is sensibly musical. Letting go of the angst of his former band, Dancel has morphed from being a maker of statements, to a teller of stories. He lends a gentler tone to profound messages and tales, with melodies reminiscent of U2, The Beatles, and Filipino greats like Joey Ayala, Apo Hiking Society, Yano, and The Eraserheads. And though these influences clearly mark their legacy in his compositions, Dancel writes music that is uniquely his own.

The album, produced by veteran record producer Robin Rivera, contains 11 OPM tracks that can easily get anyone into the groove with the comfortable melodies of each song.

The carrier single of Peryodiko titled "Agawan Base" is an early favorite in at least three local radio stations: RJ Undergound, Jam 88.3, and NU107. It even ranked top 4 in NU107 last December.

Represented by The Thirdline Inc., music fans may catch the band Peryodiko performing live at the Central Plaza, Eastwood City this Friday, March 6, at 8 p.m. for its debut album launch.
