The frenzied and chaotic world of Quiapo is the unlikely setting of a romantic movie that shows true love can transcend one's greatest fear—whether it is the fear of rejection or the fear of being vulnerable to pain.
Amor Santander (Toni Gonzaga) is a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) officer who shows no fear, except when it comes to matters of the heart. Mo, as Amor is often called, is a kick-ass enforcer of the law who manages to scare off her secret admirer, fellow police officer Kevin Robles (Sam Milby). Her feistiness also manages to catch the fancy of Caloy (Zanjoe Marudo), a vendor of pirated DVDs in Quiapo.
The three characters get entangled in a love triangle that takes them from the crowded streets of Quiapo to an abandoned building in Manila to the helipad of a known Makati landmark. Piracy
Not to be missed are the dangerous stunts that Toni did for the movie You Got Me. She opted not to use a body double during most of her stunts, which almost resulted in an accident that could have cost her legs. While riding a motorbike during a chase scene, Toni got into an accident with a pickup truck and she could have lost her legs if people around her hadn't pulled her quickly from the scene.
It's quite unnatural to see the usually bubbly Toni hold herself back while acting for this movie. But when it comes to her dramatic scenes, you can see her being very sincere and open.
Zanjoe is a revelation—the brooding Pinoy Big Brother ex-housemate is actually a natural comedian! He has a good sense of timing and he manages to fit the profile of a Quiapo inhabitant quite well. However, he did step out of character several times, particularly when his character got shot but he didn't consistently show signs of being hurt by it.
Even though this is Sam's third movie after Close to You and You Are the One, his Tagalog still needs a lot of improvement. The kilig factor also seems to have dwindled a bit in You Got Me. Although he was saying very sweet words to Toni (a.k.a. Mo), sparks didn't fly between the two.
Star Cinema's post-Valentine offering is quite a catch—there is action courtesy of Toni, comedy courtesy of Zanjoe, and romance courtesy of Sam. You Got Me is showing in theaters nationwide starting today, February 28.
