ABS-CBN's production of Carlo J. Caparas' Pieta brought out the other side of its lead stars—host-turned-dramatic actor Ryan Agoncillo and premiere TV kontrabida Cherie Gil. They breathed life to the characters of the troubled son Rigor, and selfless mother Amanda, respectively. Ryan veered away from his boy-next-door aura while Ms. Cherie was deglamorized for her role as a mother raising her son in the slums.
With the forthcoming end of Pieta this May 1, will Amanda's unconditional love for Rigor be enough to save her son from grave danger?
Launched last October 27, 2008, Pieta was directed by respected action film director Toto Natividad. This afternoon TV series combined action scenes with traditional drama. The formula worked that ABS-CBN management decided to extend it from the original 13-week-run to 27.
Pieta also became an avenue for young leading ladies Krista Ranillo (Martha) and Nikki Gil (Guia) to showcase their mettle as actresses. These two actresses complemented Ryan's brusque character. The show also exhibited the talent of its formidable roster of stars including John Regala, Jestoni Alarcon, Jason Abalos, Jairus Aquino, Lyka Ugarte, Neil Sese, Baron Geisler, DJ Durano, Niña Dolina, Alessandra and Assunta de Rossi, among others.
