Pinoy boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will unleash a different punch starting tonight.
The reigning Pound-for-Pound King displays his
innate comic chops—a side of him oftentimes eclipsed by his fierce ring-warrior image. For his first-ever sitcom titled Show Me Da Manny, the People's Champ will be paired with GMA-7's
Primetime Queen Marian Rivera.
It tells the
story of Manny Santos (Manny Pacquiao), an amateur boxing champion who inherits
a boxing gym (Gym Santos) founded by his parents. Business was doing great
until the emergence of a new and more sophisticated competitor called Gym Paredes
Fitness Center, owned by neighbor Ella Paredes (Marian Rivera). Incidentally,
Ella is the only person in the community willing to confront the neighborhood's
feared boxing champ.
Faced with the
possibility of losing his clients, Manny sets out to keep his business
from being knocked out by the modern gym. But other than steering business
operations, Manny soon discovers that his heart is starting to be
captivated by the feisty Ella. What follows is a string of comic and funny
situations all given to life not just by Manny and Ella but by the entire
neighborhood as well.
Completing the cast
are Benjie Paras, John Lapus, Rochelle Pangilinan, Paolo Contis, Lovie Poe,
Kevin Santos, Tuesday Vargas, Mike "Pekto" Nacua, Lito Camo, AJ Dee, Karl
Acosta and 1996 Olympics boxing silver medalist Onyok Velasco.
As an added treat,
Manny's equally famous mother, Mommy Dionesia "Pacmom" Pacquiao will add more
laughs to the already hilarious program. Mommy Dionesia was given a special
role to complement even more the funny cast.
In a recent interview
with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), mainstay John Lapus guaranteed
non-stop laughter, bolstered by the fact that the show's cast members are all
seasoned comedians honed by variety of sitcoms done in the past.
"Si Manny nakakatawa
naman talaga siya," John proudly mentioned. "Meron siyang natural timing when
it comes to comedy and I think people knew that even before. Ang maganda lang
dito sa Show Me Da Manny, mas may
venue siya and chance to show off 'yong kanyang pagiging komedyante."
