The young love team of Barbie Forteza and Joshua Dionisio headlines GMA-7's original telefantasya set to touch the hearts of viewers and cast its spellbinding magic on primetime television.
After wooing audiences with their roles as young Jodi and young Cholo in Stairway to Heaven, in Dear Friend's My Christmas List and in First Time, Barbie and Joshua take the limelight once again and land their biggest role to date in Pilyang Kerubin as Angelica/Charity and Michael.
During the press conference of the TV series held last May 31 at Studio 5 of GMA Network, Barbie made a grand entrance as she was lowered down from a high platform using a harness. Wearing a white flowing dress, Barbie had white wings as she imbibed her character as a naughty cherub.
When asked to compare her character with her previous role in First Time, Barbie pointed out: "Medyo tomboyish po ako dito. Sa First Time po kasi mahinhin ako. Pero dito po kasi, magalaw ako."
Her character is a naughty cherub who is punished by being sent to Earth. The only way to return to heaven is to fulfill good deeds.
For his part, Joshua agreed with her statement by saying, "si Barbie dito ibang-iba dito, makulit siya, maingay siya dito unlike sa First Time mahinhin siya."
Joshua plays the childhood friend of Angelica named Michael. "Kailangan makita ng tao na ibang-iba na 'yong character ko dito, 'yong aura compared sa First Time. Kasi sa First Time kasi snobbish ako, tahimik lang. Dito naman mas mabait ako pero uptight pa rin."
Head writer Jun Lana said that they decided to veer away from romantic love for the newest project of Joshua and Barbie.
"Una kasi nagawa na naman nila sa First Time so we're trying to explore a different kind of relationship for the two characters to be played by Joshua and Barbie tapos papasok din kasi dito si Elmo [Magalona]. Parang we don't really see them as parang love triangle... Nagbago talaga 'yong dynamics ng relationship nila."
SYNOPSIS. The story of Pilyang Kerubin begins with the romance of Angelica's (Barbie) mother Melissa (Angelika dela Cruz) and father Arman (Raymart Santiago), both graduating law students.
Jonas, played by Paolo Contis, is dead set on getting Melissa even if she is already in a relationship with Arman. He relishes destroying their relationship and schemes to expel Arman from school.
He succeeds in separating the lovers but Arman learns of his wicked plans. He elopes with Melissa and soon, she gets pregnant. But life would be hard for the couple, which puts the baby's life at risk.
With no one to run to, Arman seeks Jonas' assistance for the operation of Melissa and their baby. Jonas strikes a deal with Arman. He promises to help but on the condition that he would stay away from Melissa and his baby. With a heavy heart, Arman complies with Jonas' request just to save the lives of his beloved partner and their baby.
Jonas tells Melissa that the baby has died and orders his maid Maring (Lotlot de Leon) to give the child away. But Maring offers to keep the infant and raises her as her own.
Six years later, Maring lives in the squatter's area with the beautiful kid, Angelica. She keeps the mystery of her early life secret and no one knows the identity of her real parents.
Meanwhile, Arman is now a policeman and married to Lailani (Ina Feleo). He acts as the father of her daughter, Charity. Melissa, on the other hand, has married Jonas but her heart still beats for Arman.
One night, a fire erupts in the house of Maring. Luckily, they escape the burning quarters but Angelica returns to rescue her friend Michael (Joshua). He runs off unharmed but Angelica fails to get out and dies in the fire.
What will happen to Angelica's soul? How will her death change the life of her loved ones? Will Angelica find out the real identity of her parents? With the intervention of her guardians in heaven, how will Angelica play a role in the life of Charity? Can Angelica now carry messages of love and hope between heaven and earth?
