The University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, in cooperation with the Foundation for the Musical Filipino, will present the First UST International Guitar Festival from August 23-27, 2010.

As part of its artistic contribution to the forthcoming Quadricentennial celebration of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), Guitarra 2010 will cover a week of concerts, master classes, lectures and ensemble concerts for all who are devoted to the country's most popular instrument.

Dr. Raul Sunico, Dean of the Conservatory of Music in UST, talked about the aim of the Guitarra 2010 event at its launch last July 28 at the CCP MKP Hall.

"We want the guitar to be known as a classical series instrument. Being portable, inexpensive, and quite easy to learn [as far as basics are concerned], most of us don't know that the guitar is actually an instrument capable of more complex, substantial, and interesting sounds than we are used to hearing," he said.
