Pahayag ng CNN Philippines anchor, “You know yourself that you’re being attacked, so of course that’s, like, it’s a horrible feeling because you wonder why.
“And in the beginning, I was thinking, 'Is this something personal?'
“Then I realized, after a day or two after the attack, that this was not personal, I was just caught in a crossfire. Collateral damage, kumbaga.
“Kasi, ang bottom line is I had nothing to do with politics, I steer so clear away from that.
“So when I got this attack, it took me a while to make sense of it because I was thinking, I don’t understand why it's so vicious, why it’s so savaging, and why it’s so relentless."
Patuloy ni James, “And then somebody shared with me, 'Listen, look at the trends.'
"And they showed me the background in social media, the graphs and all that, and they said, 'This is a paid attack.'
“But there wasn’t evidence for me.
"And when you're being attacked, the last time... it's very hard to defend yourself, because, against a paid one, nobody is listening.
“It’s just they have one agenda, which is to attack. So I just had to suck it up."
"Alam mo yun, masakit yun...
"I’ll be honest, because it was a hit on my credibility and reputation—and that’s all I have.
"I don’t sell food, I don’t sell toys or softdrinks, I just… it’s my name, it's my words.
"So for somebody to come in and just do that, it really hurt."
Patuloy niya, "But, you know, I realized that this is just the way that this landscape is... especially when it’s political.
“I had no intention to enter that area and they spun the story around, but I just accepted it as a lesson learned na lang.
“But I knew... alam mo yung feeling na you knew you're being… it’s a paid attack but you’re shutting up because wala kang evidence.”
Sabi pa ni James, “A year later, you see the evidence, and there you go, okay, what I’ve always known now, may resibo pala.
“In some ways, I was thinking twice about it.”
“I also wanted to think, 'Do I really bring this issue up again, because it's ugly, it was a nasty issue, a nasty issue and a nasty time. So, do I have to bring it up?'
"And I said, 'Yes, because you have to be vindicating yourself.
"The evidence is there, you should at least present it to the public and say, 'See, I’m going to only do this once… because this is what I’ve been thinking and the evidence proved that it’s a paid attack.'”
“It’s normal when you're boosting a product or service—that, no problem.
"But not when you’re defaming somebody or attacking and when you’re claiming that you’re independent.
