Rock the Riles marks International Human Rights Day on December 12

Rock Ed Philippines celebrates International Human Rights Day with 8 simultaneous gigs along the EDSA MRT this Sunday, December 12, 2010.

"This Sunday, December 12, over 80 performers will hold eight simultaneous events at eight MRT stations along EDSA. It's Rock Ed Philippines' fifth edition of Rock the Riles, an annual celebration of International Human Rights Day.

"Noel Cabangon, Sugarfree, Imago, Chicosci, Radioactive Sago Project, Stonefree, Peryodiko, Ciudad, and Up Dharma Down lead this year's gathering, urging Filipinos to use the United Nations's eight Millennium Development Goals as a roadmap for progress.

"The following performances will take place between 12 noon and 7 p.m. at select MRT stations:

"Shaw Station: Standing up against HIV/AIDS and preventable diseases are Sugarfree, Imago, Peryodiko, Tanya Markova, Juan Pablo Dream, Us-2 Evil-0, Chillitees, Nyko Maca presents GaFiEiRA, SLEX, Monsterbot, Ernville, Switch, Championship Vinyl, Google Dolls, Gracenote, and Katinig.

"Cubao Station: Working to save the environment are Noel Cabangon, Paramita, Jeepney Joyride, FMD Combo, OGSacred, Miko Pepito, LTNS, Toyo, Ozawa, and All for Patricia.

"Ayala Station: Supporting a global partnership for development; Radioactive Sago Project, Up Dharma Down, Sleepwalk Circus, Musical O, Encounters With A Yeti, Not Another Boy Band, The Charmes, Hidden Nikki, Popular Days, Toto Sorioso, and Flying Ipis.

"Taft Station: Speaking out against hunger are Chicosci, Giniling Festival, Stonefree, Gaijin, Bagetsafonik, Out of Body Special, Ill-J, Miscellaneous, Blueboybitesback, Billy Gaga, and Pull It Surprise.

"Boni Station: Standing up for maternal health; Ciudad, Johnoy Danao, Maya's Anklet, Pale Yellow Light, Ivan Theory, Lowtechs, Jab, Popoyfield Combo, Doki, and Ginoong Vitalis.

"Quezon Avenue Station: Pushing for basic education; CinemAlexis short films curated by Erwin Romulo and Philbert Dy. Catch works by John Torres, Jerrold Tarog, Christopher Gozum, Raymond Red, Raya Martin, Jade Castro, Remton Zuasola, and more.

"Buendia Station: Promoting gender equality; Mayonnaise, Turbo Goth, Intolerant, Playphonics, Reklamo, Lip Service, Arcadia, Naked Lights, Sando, Trapeze, Penguin, Eleyn, and Odat.

"North Avenue Station: Standing up against child mortality; Archipelago, Salamin, Hansom, Pitik, Tonight We Sleep, Pascalene, Kuwago, and Jejaview.

"Meanwhile, Rock Ed Iloilo is holding it's 3rd annual Riles on Saturday, December 11, 2010, 6PM onwards, at Lanai Bar & Grill, Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City. Books donations will be accepted for the students of Paga Elementary School in San Enrique, Iloilo. Performers include Oink, U Decide, On D Spot, Nadalman, Owan23rd, Tepen Band, Yana Broke My, One Zero, One Zero, and Children's Playground. Rock Ed's Rehas short films will also be shown.

"Rock the Riles is Rock Ed's way of honoring all the progress that was made this year, and at the same time launching another year of nation-building," says Pepe Diokno, internationally-acclaimed director of Engkwentro and Rock Ed's new executive director.

"Rock Ed is a countrywide volunteer group that finds fun ways to make Filipinos interested in nation-building. It was founded in 2005 by Gang Badoy, who is an educator, journalist, and one of this year's Ten Outstanding Women of Service. Diokno took the helm of Rock Ed this month."
