Billy Crawford comments on the so-called “curse” afflicting the hosts of It’s Showtime.

“It’s not just the hosts that make the show; it’s really the show itself,” the singer-TV host points out when asked about the rumoured “Showtime Curse” during an interview held last April 7 at the Universal Records building.

“I don't really believe in luck or bad luck. Sometimes it's not our season,” says Billy.

Billy and his fellow Showtime hosts Vice Ganda, Karylle, Vhong Navarro, and Anne Curtis were all involved in major controversies and headlined news reports recently.

Vhong was mauled last January and he is currently facing several legal battles. Anne was recently stung by jellyfish while shooting scenes for her fantaserye Dyesebel.

Vice Ganda admitted that he had a “tampuhan” with Karylle, which stemmed from a comment given by Karylle’s then fiancé Yael Yuzon. Vice and Karylle have already patched things up.

As for Billy himself, he found himself in the limelight when Nikki Gil gave a controversial interview to Cosmopolitan Magazine regarding her ex-boyfriend’s “inconsistencies.” Billy was again thrust into the limelight when his photos with Coleen Garcia became viral and he finally admitted that he is smitten by his Showtime co-host.

Billy admits that they could not help but wonder who could be faced with a controversy in the future.

“Yung nangyari kay Anne, it's accident. Yung kay Vice at Karylle personal experience sa kanila. Yung sa akin, personal din. Yung kay Vhong, medyo sunod-sunod nga.

"Nung una, nung sunud-sunod kaming nagkaka-problema para kaming, ‘Sino ang susunod? Who's next?’

Because of all these setbacks, the Fil-Am singer-TV host admits that they need to make adjustments to the ABS-CBN noontime program.

"Mahirap mag-continue ang isang pamilya kapag butas-butas, bungi-bungi ang show. Minsan nakasalalay kung sino ang natitira. Pero sa awa naman ng Diyos naitatawid namin.”

There have been good things happening to the hosts as well, proving that not only bad things happen to them: Vice Ganda’s Metro Manila Film Fest entry did very well in the box-office, Karylle recently got married to Spongecola’s Yael Yuzon, Anne was chosen to topbill the remake of Dyesebel, Vhong will open his new movie on Black Saturday, and Billy will be releasing an album this year.

“Ang maganda niyan we take it positively din. Kasi parang we grow stronger as a family. Nandito kami para isa't isa, yun ang natutunan namin. So from all the trials na pinagdaanan namin parang there's always a good side to it."

BILLY SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM. On a lighter note, Billy is set to return to the recording scene after several years.

“Around The World” and “Driving Me Crazy” are two of the possible song titles in Billy’s upcoming album. Although the release date and actual title of the album is still unknown, Billy discloses what fans can expect from his latest record.

“There’s a little bit of myself in each song,” says the 31-year-old musician.

The album features Billy’s kind of music. He says that the style will reflect what is “in” nowadays. “There’s a mixture of R&B, a mixture of pop, a mixture of EDM [electronic dance music], pretty much kung ano yung mga up-to-date.”

Aside from reflecting his usual outgoing, cool and sometimes makulit self, the album will also show his more serious and sweet side through OPM love songs. “Since mahilig tayo sa senti sa Pilipinas, yun yung OPM,” pertaining to the slow songs in the album.

NOOD KA MUNA!

This is Billy’s 8th album since the start of his career. “The Groove [2009] is all covers. This time around, originals.” He also reveals that this will be his first time to “play around” as a producer-songwriter.

As a part of the group Three Stars and the Sun, Billy, Jay-R and Kris Lawrence came together to “create music from the Philippines and bring it abroad.”

Billy also hopes to penetrate the international market once again. He has already recorded four songs in France and there are plans to release his album abroad.

He will release the album under Universal Records, the company that has been taking care of his music career for more than 10 years.

When asked why he opted to renew his contract with Universal Records, Billy explains, “Never ako nabigo sa Universal, I always had full support with Universal. Nung wala pa akong album, Universal pa rin nag-aalaga sa akin. They always just believed in me and I always just had really great experiences with Universal.”

THE REAL DEAL WITH COLEEN. When asked about the status of his relationship with Coleen Garcia, Billy says, “We are exclusively dating.

“We’re still taking our time. I enjoy her company, we enjoy each other’s company, we go out, we have friends. As long na alam ko where I stand, I know where I’m happy and, hopefully, I make her happy, then that’s it.

“Everyone deserves to be happy.”
