"Journey is part of it," said Jay Taruc about his upcoming show, Motorcycle Diaries, which will air on GMA News TV Channel 11 starting July 15.
Jay, who is the son of radio broadcaster Joe Taruc, had a pocket interview with select members of the press at Dulcinea restaurant, Tomas Morato Ave. earlier today, July 12.
In the newest public affairs program of GMA News TV, Jay will offer a new twist in delivering documentaries by searching for stories on the road.
Jay is a motorcycle enthusiast, which is why he would love to unite his two passions in life: doing documentaries and riding a motorcycle.
Why is the show called Motorcycle Diaries?
"Basically I'll be telling stories of people and places and reaching them by motorcycle," he explained.
"Like for example, the first episode that we will be airing, sobrang makitid ang daan doon—na only motorcycle can pass through it.
"Bale sa Agusan del Sur siya, sa Mindanao—Butuan, four hours from the town San Luis, four hours din 'yong sa habal-habal."
The first 12 episodes of Motorcyle Diaries will be done here in the Philippines but Jay is open to possibly going abroad to feature untold stories about other cultures.
"As I said, first episode was in Agusan. I focused on a particular soldier na PMA, actually tatlo o apat sila do'n. 'Yong pangalan nung soldier is Lt. Nara," Jay said.
"Sa sobrang layo ng lugar nila, walang cellphone signal or Internet, kailangan mo pang bumiyahe ng one hour sa isang bayan na worth one thousand pesos 'yon ha," he recalled.
Jay also revealed details about the two upcoming episodes.
"With the second episode, sa San Miguel, Bulacan naman. Ngayon naman it's about a teacher sa bundok," he explained.
"Thirteen years na siyang teacher do'n. Doon na siya natutulog for a week then weekends lang siya umuuwi. Nagtuturo siya sa Talamsidos Elementary School sa Sitio Talamsidos."
"'Tapos tomorrow may immersion kami, for our third naman. Sa San Antonio, Nueva Ecija—magiging magsasaka naman ako dito."
Motorcycle Diaries will start airing on GMA News TV Channel 11 on July 15 at 8 p.m.
