For the past three months, there has been intense competition in the Saturday noontime block since the appearance of AlDub.
Saturday is the usual "battle day" between noontime variety shows of GMA-7 and ABS-CBN.
GMA-7's noontime show Eat Bulaga and ABS-CBN's It's Showtime offer grand opening production numbers and/or "pasabog" celebrity performances on Saturdays.
These shows usually hold the weekly or grand finals of their segments every weekend in the hopes of getting higher viewership.
Since Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza's tandem (popularly known as AlDub) entered the scene, they helped propel the ratings of Eat Bulaga. The ratings skyrocketed as more viewers tuned in to witness their onscreen love story develop on the noontime program.
