Brillante "Dante" Mendoza's two indie films, Foster Child and Slingshot, will soon be seen in the UK and France after the rights to the film were bought recently by two foreign companies. These two films were recently part of the "A Window on Asia" section of the Pusan International Film Festival. The PIFF took place from October 4-10, 2007 in South Korea.
According to the movie website screendaily.com, Pecadillo Pictures struck a deal with Philippines-based Ignatius Films Canada to acquire the UK rights of Foster Child. Inking the deal were Pecadillo's Tom Abell and Kahloon Loke. The 35mm feature film Foster Child stars Cherry Pie Picache, Dan Alvaro, Eugene Domingo, Jiro Manio, Alwyn Uytingco, and Kier Segundo as the foster kid. It was previously sold to France 's Ad Vitam at Cannes, and a February 2008 release in France is now scheduled.
Meanwhile, Tirador (international title: Slingshot) has been sold to Swift Distribution for France and French-speaking Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. Ignatius Films Canada negotiated the deal with Didier Costet for Swift, the same company that bought Dante's Masahista (international title: The Masseur).
The digital film Tirador stars Jiro Manio, Kristofer King, Nathan Lopez, and Coco Martin as small-time criminals who operate in the streets of Manila. Its world premiere took place in Toronto and is expected to play in Berlin 's Forum next year.
