Sikil (international title: Unspoken Passion) has
been officially invited to the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January
2008. The 19th PSIFF will take place in Palm Springs, California, U.S.A. It is
scheduled from January 3-14, 2008, featuring a line-up of more than 230 films
from 65 countries. The good news was reported by Ferdy Lapuz to PEP (Philippine
Entertainment Portal) via email.
Aside from competing in PSIFF, Sikil participated in the 1st Cancun International Film Festival in Mexico this November and the Valencia International Film Festival in Spain last October.
The lead star Ken Escudero, who was named Ginoong Filipinas 2006, holds a B.S. Marine Engineering diploma from the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies. He acts opposite Wil Sandejas, Ashley Silverio, Dodo dela Paz, Sylvia Sanchez, and Ms. Anita Linda. Written by Romualdo Avellanosa, it has been sold to North America and Germany and Austria already. This is the directorial debut of Roni Bertubin and produced by Juan Mario Barron III for New Life Cinema.
The film is represented worldwide by Ignatius Films Canada, which is also handling Brillante Mendoza's Foster Child and Tirador.
SYNOPSIS. Sikil tells the story of two men and
a woman who are involved in a bizarre love triangle. These three friends grew
up in a small town south of Manila. Ken Escudero plays Enzo, a young closet-gay
prostitute obsessed with his childhood friend (Wil Sandejas), who happens
to be a callboy and has a girlfriend (played by Ashley Silverio).
Other interesting characters are
the bi-sexual pimp (Ethan Javier), a regular bathhouse customer (Marty
Mendoza), and a sampaguita vendor-pickpocket-shoplifter and caretaker of
Adong's daughter (Corrine Concepcion).
Sikil will be screened at the University of the
Philippines Film Institute, Diliman, on November 22.
