Helen Gamboa will make her comeback on the big screen for the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival horror entry titled Segunda Mano. The multi-awarded actress has been cast as the mother of Kris Aquino. Segunda Mano, a movie produced by Star Cinema Agosto Dos Productions and MJM, also stars Dingdong Dantes and Angelica Panganiban.
In Segunda Mano, Helen plays Adela. After the tragic death of her younger daughter Marie, Adela grieved so much that she unintentionally lost affection for her other child Mabel, played by Kris.
Mabel is the owner of a high-class, but creepy, antique shop, who is engaged to Ivan Galvez (Dingdong Dantes). Ivan is a rich and successful architect who only wants to find the perfect wife and mother for his young daughter Angel to finally have a complete and happy family after his ex-wife left for him for another man.
When Mabel is haunted by a seemingly vengeful ghost, Adela knows that she cannot stand to lose her remaining daughter. Is Adela ready to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Mabel?
Helen started out as a singer back in the '60s, having recorded a string of best-selling albums. She immediately crossed-over to the big screen starring in numerous musical films that earned her the recognition as one of the earliest multi-media stars. She later went on to leave a mark in the industry as a dramatic actress for bagging many awards for her various performances, notably in the movies Oras Oras Araw Araw, and Bagong Bayani: The Flor Contemplacion Story.
Although now that Helen enjoys her life as wife to Senator Tito Sotto with their children and grandchildren, she stills values her craft as an actress. That's why she never hesitates whenever a great project will be offered to her, just like ABS-CBN's 2009 teleserye Tayong Dalawa. "Hindi naman ako pinagbabawalan. Alam naman nila na passion ko talaga ito. Never naman naging bawal sa akin ang showbiz," she explained.
As 2012 opens, Helen will be seen in the star-studded ABS-CBN teleserye Walang Hanggan where she will play the sister of Susan Roces and the mother of Richard Gomez. Walang Hanggan also stars Dawn Zulueta, Rita Avila, Joem Bascon, Melissa Ricks, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes, and Coco Martin.
Catch Segunda Mano under MJM Productions, AgostoDos Pictures and Star Cinema opening in theaters nationwide beginning December 25, 2011.
