A month since its launch, TV5's music countdown show called Vibe is growing its community of Filipino artists celebrating OPM.
The show also brings together nine Vibe jocks who will not only co-host the show but also showcase their talent as performers.
These are Elijah Canlas, drag queen Maxie Andreison, Ryle Santiago, Queenay Mercado, Dylan Menor, Kych Minomoto, Ana Ramsey, Joao Constancia, and Paulo Angeles.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), TV5 executive Peter Dizon explains the concept behind the show.
Dizon is the assistant vice-president and head of Content Operations for MQuest Ventures, Inc., the parent company that owns TV5 Network.
"Vibe was conceptualized from the idea that merong something na kailangan tayo itulong sa music industry," he begins.
With Vibe, Dizon says TV5 wants to establish its own "music ecosystem" where they can partner with the music industry in helping grow the viewers' love for Filipino music.
"So, ano nga ba yung kulang natin ngayon? The rising stars are being propelled because they have exposure sa radio, sa Spotify, and all that.
"Pero, like, the GenZs and millennials know them, not the entire Philippines.
"So, we're offering our platform, specifically TV5, to create a countdown show where we can actually celebrate OPM.
"So that's the first intention of creating Vibe—celebrating OPM by means of empowering the fans, because it's about them, di ba?
"It's a countdown show because they get to vote their favorite artists and do all that. Technically, it's a collaboration, it's a celebration."
Far from just ranking hits, Dizon says Vibe is a platform that aims to amplify Filipino songwriters and performers, trace the evolving stories behind each track, and reconnect audiences not just with longtime music icons but even with breakthrough artists.
He elaborates: "There is a spotlight experience which is like the center stage for uprising stars. That's the second intention of creating Vibe.
"The third one is actually a tribute to the OG musical artists and performers. So when we talk about OG, siyempre nandiyan na yung mga kilala nating artists.
"So, that's also something that we'd like to empower because not most of the GenZs know the OGs of the music industry."

VIBE TV OFFERINGS AND TIMESLOTS
Vibe, which airs every Sunday on TV5, from 6:30 to 7:15 P.M., serves as the main program. This is where the OPM songs that made it to the Top 10 OPM will be shown.
Then there are two daily shows: Vibe Up and Vibe Nights.
Vibe Up, which airs Monday to Friday at 4:45 to 5:30 P.M., will feature live guestings of emerging OPM artists with entertaining hot takes on viral music trends and topics.
Vibe Nights, which airs Monday to Friday at 11:30 P.M. to 12 M.N. will feature music highlights and good vibes with interactive segments and live comments straight from fans.
Vibe TV, which airs every Saturday at 6:30 to 7:15 P.M., is the prelude to the Sunday countdown. It will feature a recap of each week as well as voting reminders, vibe jock highlights, and kulitan behind the scenes.
The daily Vibe offerings on TV5, plus the online show Vibe Cafe, will help maximize the exposure of the artists.
Dizon, for his part, is excited to feature emerging artists with remarkable talent on the show and also introduce artists from different regions in the country.
"We'd also like to see how the VizMin music industry can be propelled into mainstream.
"Kasi somehow we've seen that happen with Shaira, with Elias J. I mean, hindi na kasi siya matatawag na trends, e.
"Those are celebrations of different regions on how they appreciate music."

Dizon also notes how SB19 has inspired the Philippine music industry to keep discovering new P-pop groups and OPM talents in the last few years.
"So, kumbaga kasi, when we think of it, P-pop, unang-una na nating naiisip diyan SB19, di ba?
"Pero madaming nai-inspire because of SB19. So, maganda that we get to celebrate our own music.
"Months ago, when I thought of this one, my question to my team was, like, 'What if we create something na yung content na yun, yun ang ipapalabas in a samgyupsal place?'
"Because I always see K-pop groups being played around dun sa mga TV sets. Sabi ko, 'We are in the Philippines, pero we get to celebrate the K-pop with the K-pop music industry,' which is not bad, di ba? We get to inspire people sa K-pop and then we get to be inspired also.
"Pero sabi ko, high time na rin naman that those platforms, even those simplest touch points magkaroon tayo ng access to those kinds of performances.
"So what if we create a stage for the artists, celebrated, voted by the fans, celebrated by the people? So that's Vibe."

PETER DIZON ON MR. M AT THE HELM OF VIBE
Another thing that excites Dizon about Vibe is that Johnny Manahan, aka Mr. M, is onboard as the show's director.
Mr. M is bringing with him decades of experience not just in discovering new talents as co-founder and former head of Star Magic, ABS-CBN's talent management arm.
As a veteran director, he's known for pioneering and shaping iconic TV shows like ASAP, Wowowee, Palibhasa Lalake, and The Voice PH franchise among others.
"Yes. He's going to do Vibe as our director," Dizon tells PEP.
"Mr. M and I have been collaborating like for the longest time, I mean, since The Voice.
"So I'm very excited he accepted the project. And it's also a good opportunity for him to, like, hone new collaborators.
"We're also training different artists... new breed of hosts na eventually sasalang din natin. So yun, Vibe is also a space for collaboration."

Asked to differentiate his work in ABS-CBN and TV5, Dizon explains that his work remains to be in the business of ideation, development, and execution of different TV programs.
Talking about how his experience in ABS-CBN has helped him with his current role in TV5, he says: "Very helpful at the end of the day, because ito naman talaga yung craft ko.
"Ito yung inaral ko nang college—content creation and then production, ideating things, creating innovations for content.
"Para ka lang nagba-bike, like driving at the end of the day, so it's the same thing."
Dizon is a graduate of Film and Audiovisual Communication at University of the Philippines in 2008.
"Ang importante naman ngayon whether you're on social media, you're on TV, you get to create a content that travels."
