The Lion King smashes theater box-office record in Manila

Oct 29, 2017

When tickets to the international tour of Disney's The Lion King went on sale for customers of sponsoring presenters Globe and Visa last October 25, Manila audiences were able to set new box-office records.

The Lion King, presented by Michael Cassel Group and Concertus Manila, in association with Disney Theatrical Productions, has sold over 14,000 tickets on day one of the priority booking period.

This beats the previous record of a single day of sales, which happened to Cameron Mackintosh's Les Miserables, which was staged at the Theatre at Solaire in the first quarter of 2016.

"From the thousands of people who joined the initial priority waitlist to the ticket sales skyrocketing on day one alone, it's clear that Manila just can't wait for The Lion King," said Joey Verzo, managing director of Concertus Manila, in a statement.

Robert Sewell, president of TicketWorld, is just as overwhelmed with the response. "For years, The Lion King had topped all our surveys when we asked the Philippine theater-going audience what they wanted to see.

Globe Platinum and postpaid subscribers as well as Visa cardholders can purchase tickets to The Lion King before the general public.

This special priority booking offer is only for a limited time, now until November 2.

Tickets will be sold to the general public starting November 3. Book at www.TicketWorld.com.ph or visit www.TheLionKing.ph

The Lion King will begin performances in Manila at the Theatre at Solaire on March 18, 2018.
