"For starters, never naman po nagpakasal yung dalawa, so they gave me the option when I was way way younger.

"Do you want to change your last name to Bautista?" tanong daw noon ng kanyang ama kay Race, na sinagot daw niya ng “Why would I do that?"

"Why would I wanna change my last name, e, okey naman ako sa Matias?

"From the start naman talaga, I had a fair idea of the relationship that my parents have.

"There was a lot of drama that came before I was even born.

"From the start, my mom never wanted to hide anything.

"She wanted to come clean right away, 'This is what happened.

"So going back, 'Why would I wanna change my name?'

"'So that, you know, you can prove na I’m your dad,'" ang diumano’y sagot noon ni Herbert sa kanya.

"And then, a stupid thing came to my head, 'So then, how can I prove na she’s my mom?'

"My dad was, like, 'Fair enough.'

"And then, according to my parents, sabi ng mom ko, 'Ano ba yung itinuturo mo sa anak mo?'

"My mother and I have a very dynamic relationship, and it’s tough love lagi, which is… she’s a single mom.

"I love both of my parents. I never had any problem [with my dad].

"He was there with every step, like, he never missed a birthday, he never missed a Christmas dinner, he never missed graduations, family day, all the major steps of my life.

"I appreciate him. He’s a busy guy, I can only imagine what it’s like running Quezon City."

Sagot nya, "If I were to wish for one thing, it is happiness for the both of them, whether or not it’s the two of them being together.

"If my dad finds someone who makes him happy and that person is not my mother, I’m happy.
