Si Richard Goldwin Monteverde ang bagong head coach ng men’s basketball team ng University of the Philippines.
Ayon ito sa official announcement na inilabas ni UP Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo ngayong Biyernes ng hapon, August 13.
Nakasaad dito: “Despite the recent pandemic measures, we have continued with our consultations with the UP community, stakeholders and supporters of the UP Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT).
"We also conducted interviews of all the applicants as part of the vetting process for the selection of our UPMBT Head Coach.
"I would like to announce that the next UPMBT Head Coach is Goldwyn Monteverde.
"Moreover, we take this opportunity to also announce the appointment of previous Head Coach Bo Perasol as UPMBT Program Director.
"Dean Francis Diaz of the UP College of Human Kinetics will oversee this transition to the next phase of our pursuit of excellence in the premier battleground of collegiate sports."
Para sa mga personal na nakakakilala kay Goldwin, hindi nakakagulat ang kanyang appointment bilang head coach ng UPMBT dahil maraming beses na niyang napatunayan ang kanyang husay bilang basketball coach.
May showbiz connection si Goldwin dahil anak siya ni Regal Entertainment, Inc. producers Mother Lily Monteverde at Remy Monteverde.
Sa mga anak ni Mother Lily at Father Remy, tanging si Goldwin ang pinakaaktibo sa mundo ng sports.
Mga movie at television producer din ang kanyang mga kapatid na sina Roselle, Meme, at Dondon.
Si Dondon ang executive ng UPSTREAM.ph at founder ng Reality Entertainment, Inc.
“Proud of what you’ve become! UP Fight!” mensahe ni Dondon para sa appointment ng kanyang 51-year old-brother.
“Congratulations!” naman ang reaksiyon ni Roselle sa bagong achievement ni Goldwin.
