Pagmamay-ari umano ni dating Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Catalina Cabral ang three-star Ion Hotel sa Baguio City, pero ibinenta niya ito kay Benguet Representative Eric Yap nitong 2025.
Ito ang rebelasyon ni Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Isiniwalat ni Remulla ang kanyang nalamang impormasyon ngayong Sabado, Disyembre 20, 2025, sa isang programa ng DZMM.
Ang Ion Hotel ang sinasabing tinuluyan ni Cabral noong Huwebes, Disyembre 18, bago siya nagpunta sa Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet—na kinaroroonan ng kontrobersyal at kinukuwestyon na PHP36-billion rock netting project ni Yap.
Ang naturang lugar din ang pinangyarihan ng pagkahulog ni Cabral sa bangin na naging sanhi ng kamatayan niya.
"Sa tingin ko, sanay siya roon kasi yung lahat ng rock netting, andodoon din.
"Nakita kasi namin yung Ion Hotel, kung saan siya nakatira ay pag-aari ni Usec. Cabral, pero ibinenta niya noong 2025 sa isang nagngangalang Eric Yap," ang may katiyakang kuwento ni Remulla.
Pahayag pa ni Remulla: "It is evident na may relasyon sila ni Eric Yap, business-wise. It is evident na yung mga paglagay ng rock netting na iyon ay dumaan sa opisina ni Usec. Cabral.
"It is evident na ang supplier at contractor ng rock netting ay si Eric Yap, so somehow there is [a] relationship.”

FROZEN ASSETS OF ERIC YAP, EDVIC YAP
Naka-freeze ang 280 bank accounts at 18-billion-peso worth of assets ni Eric at kapatid niyang si Edvic Yap.
Si Eric ay incumbent Benguet representative, habang si Edvic ay incumbent Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) representative.
Noong Disyembre 9, 2025, mismong si President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang nag-anunsisyo na may freeze order na inilabas ang Court of Appeals sa mga bank account at ari-arian ng magkapatid dahil sa pagkakasangkot sa mga anomalya sa mga proyekto sa flood control.
"Sakop ng freeze order ang mga account at ari-arian ng Silverwolves Construction Corporation at Sky Yard Aviation Corporation, pati na rin ang mga personal accounts at assets ng mga indibidwal na sangkot sa imbestigasyon, kabilang sina Congressman Eric Yap at Edvic Yap.
"Kabuuang 280 bank accounts ang na-freeze, 22 insurance policies, tatlong securities accounts, at walong 8 sasakyang panghimpapawid, kabilang ang mga eroplano at helicopter na konektado sa Sky Yard Aviation," ang sabi ni Marcos Jr.

ION HOTEL'S STATEMENT ON CATALINA CABRAL'S DEATH
Samantala, ngayong Sabado, December 20, naglabas ng opisyal na pahayag ang pamunuan ng Ion Hotel kunsaan sinasabing naka-check-in si Cabral bago ito pumanaw.
May kinalaman sa pagkamatay ni Cabral ang pahayag, pero hindi tuwirang binanggit ng management ang detalye ng trahedya.
Idinahilan ng pamunuan ng hotel ang Data Privacy Act of 2012.
"Ion Hotel is aware of media reports concerning an individual who was found deceased along Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.
"In strict compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012, Ion Hotel is unable to confirm, deny, or disclose any information relating to guest records, including whether any individual checked in or stayed at the hotel.
"lon Hotel is fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities and will provide any information that may be lawfully required through proper legal channels.
"We respectfully request understanding and ask that the privacy of all parties involved be observed as the investigation proceeds,” ang kabuuan ng pahayag ng legal counsel ng Ion Hotel.
