Matagal nang naninirahan sa Amerika si Maria Isabel, at bumabalik lamang sa Pilipinas kapag may mga proyekto siyang gagawin.

MARIA ISABEL LOPEZ RECALLS NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE
Nang makipag-ugnayan ang Cabinet Files kay Maria Isabel ngayong Miyerkules, Abril 29, detalyado niyang ikinuwento ang kanyang near-death experience.
Dalawang linggo siyang namalagi sa ospital at kasalukuyang nagpapagaling sa kanilang tahanan sa California, USA.
Lahad ng Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1982 titleholder: “It happened April 8. I was driving alone, five minutes na lang nasa bahay na sana ako.
“It was a head-on collision. Total wreck ang minamaneho kong VW ID.4.
"Normal speed at 45-50mph then boom! My car started to spin.
"I was in a state of shock. I couldn’t get out of my car from the inside. The door won’t open.
"Some help came then the ambulance. It’s a good thing here in United States. People act fast."
Naging komplikado ang kalagayan ni Maria Isabel nang magkaroon ng impeksiyon ang sugat na tinamo niya mula sa aksidente.
Saad niya: “I was brought to Kaiser Santa Rosa, California.
"And my intestines ruptured and bowels. Kumalat inside me. We had a surgery performed.
“After two days, the wound got infected. White blood corpuscels kept rising as well as my blood platelets."
Ayon sa MedlinePlus, ang white blood cells (WBCs) o leukocytes ay "essential components of the immune system produced in the bone marrow to fight infections, diseases, and foreign invaders."
Pagpapatuloy ni Maria Isabel: “A CT scan shows may abcess in my abdomen so I had another procedure to remove it.
"I was discharged after 13 days in the hospital recovering from home with a wound vacuum attached to my abdomen to facilitate the healing process."
Sa huli ay ibinahagi ni Maria Isabel ang mga aral na natutunan niya mula sa aksidenteng naranasan.
Aniya: “In life, walang guarantees. Our life is in God’s hands.
"When you have a near-death experience, what matters most is relationships."
