Online registration for the national ID will start on April 30, the Philippine Statistics Authority said Wednesday.

Through the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys, Filipinos are given a valid proof of identity that contains both basic information and added security functions such as biometrics. The ID comes in physical and digital formats, and members of the system can use their unique PhilSys number as proof of identity.

Bank account applications, receipt of aid, and other identity verification processes are expected to be faster once the centralized ID system is in place.

Here's how to apply for the national ID:

Provide demographic information and set appointment

Once the online registration portal is up, you will have to provide the following details:

  • Name
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Blood type
  • Address

Information like marital status, cell phone number, and e-mail address will also have to be submitted.

After submission, you can set an appointment in the second step, as physical appearance is required at a registration center of your choice.

Biometric information

On the day of your appointment, you have to undergo fingerprint and iris scans, a front-facing photograph, and validation of supporting documents at a registration center.

This is to ascertain your identity presented in the first step. Don't forget to bring your transaction number from the online registration.

For a list of supporting documents, visit the PhilSys website.

Issuance of PhilSys Number (PSN) and PhilID

Your unique PSN and physical ID will be delivered to your doorstep once done. The public is reminded to refrain from posting photos of the ID or number on social media as it contains personal information.
