Nagsimula nang i-leak ng hackers sa dark web ang ilang datos ng Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth), pagkumpirma ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Kabilang sa mga ini-leak ay identification cards ng mga empleyado, tulad ng Government Service Insurance System IDs, ani DICT Undersecretary Jeffrey Dy.
Nakita rin umano ng DICT ang kopya ng payroll ng mga empleyado at iba pang detalye tulad ng “regional offices, memos, directives, working files, hospital bills" nila.
Sabi pa ni Dy sa CNN Philippines, “In terms of PII (Personal Identifiable Information), we saw some IDs, pictures, which we cannot ascertain at the moment if they are Philhealth employees or members.

Nangyari ito matapos hindi ibigay ng PhilHealth ang hinihinging ransom ng hackers para maibalik sa government-owned agency ang access sa website nito.
Na-hack ng Medusa Ransomwhare ang PhilHealth website noong September 22, 2023.
Humihingi ang international gang sa likod ng hacking ng ransom na $300,000 (PHP17 million) para ibalik sa PhilHealth ang access sa website nito.

Ag dark web—na maa-access sa pamamagitan ng specialized web browser—ay gumagamit ng technology para hindi matukoy ang user.
Ginagamit ito sa maling paraan, tulad ng pagbili at pagbenta ng mga prohibited items at illegal items, tulad tulad ng drugs, pornography, at stolen identities.
Sinabi rin ng gobyerno na hindi sila magbibigay ng ransom sa hackers.
Una na ring naglabas ng pahayag ng PhilHealth na bagamat “intact” ang primary database nito ay may impormasyon o datos pa ring nakompromiso.
