If you happen to catch a movie at one of Robinsons cinema branches, prepare to be surprised by a short film featuring an endearing yet lonesome robot.
The two-minute film, titled The Lonely Bot, narrates the journey of Roboto as he embarks on a quest for genuine connection.
Roboto once shared the screen with another robot and a close friend named Roberta.

Both robots soon found themselves abandoned after the initial excitement surrounding their film faded away.
With Roberta deactivated and abandoned in a storage room somewhere, a disheartened Roboto sets out and wanders in search of a new friend.
The Lonely Bot was launched on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the VIP Cinema inside Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City.
PERSONAL CONNECTION
Interestingly, the film is for the latest campaign of GoTyme Bank, the digital bank launched last year in the Philippines by the Gokongwei Group and Singapore-based Tyme.

At the heart of the campaign is GoTyme’s message that it values having actual people at the forefront of its business, particularly its customer service operations.
There’s some irony here if you take a closer look.
How does a bank that champions digitalization—and with AI (artificial intelligence) technology continuing to boom—rely on humans instead of going all out on automatization?

For CEO Nate Clarke, the answer is simple: “The more digital the world becomes, the more human a bank needs to be.”
Based on research and observation by the GoTyme team, bank clients appreciate connecting with real people rather than dealing with chatbots and automated programs in their transactions.
While modern technology has helped ease loads of operational issues, it has also widened the gap of disconnect between businesses and customers, leading to more frustrations for both parties.
With that said, GoTyme reinforces its commitment to strong customer service by deploying more people on the ground to help existing and potential clients with their dealings and transactions.
Aside from setting up kiosks manned by customer service representatives in different locations, human personal bankers are also available 24/7 to receive calls, chat, or reply through emails.

This means that customers will not interact with chatbots or call menus should they reach out to the bank.
Co-CEO Albert Tinio says, “At the core of human banking is communication, building connections, and solving issues. Our promise is to provide you with the best customer service; a banking experience deeply rooted in empathy, care, and human excellence.”
GoTyme takes pride in its so-called "phygital" business model, combining seamlessly the convenience of digital technology and human-led touchpoints in its operations.

APPEALING TO A WIDE AUDIENCE
Coming up with a short film like The Lonely Bot is one way for the brand to reach out to people and connect with them emotionally to get this message across.

More GoTyme-produced short films will be screened in Robinsons Movieworld branches and online platforms to promote further the brand’s campaign.
Much like The Lonely Bot, this series of movies promises to be insightful, funny, and catchy to appeal to the sensibilities of the Filipino audience.
As Albert expains to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), “A year when GoTyme started sinabi namin ang greatest differentiator namin is gusto namin maging relatable, gusto namin maging human, lalung-lalo na digital yung license ng GoTyme.”

He continues, “But as we work, building in our minds what that human meant, tamang-tama naman na lumabas yung trend on AI and that kind of technology and we say, ‘Hey, the more digital the world becomes, the more human you have to inject in this digital world.’ That concept grew.
“Sabi namin, ‘How we can best embody that?’Ayun, lumabas with a robot wanting for himself human connection.”
Catch The Lonely Bot in Robinsons Movieworld branches nationwide.
