Makakatanggap ang indigent senior citizens ng PHP1,000 buwan-buwan simula Pebrero 2024!
Sila ang mga benepisyaryo ng Social Pension program ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Inihayag ito ni Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez noong January 22, 2024, sa official Facebook account ng ahensiya.
Ayon kay Lopez: “We expect that the distribution of the social pension for the first semester with its increased amount will commence this February 2024.
“The funds increasing the monthly stipend for social pensioners were already approved and included in the 2024 budget of the agency.”

Ang PHP1,000 pension para sa mahihirap na senior citizens ay itinatakda sa ilalim ng Republic Act 11916 o ang “Act Increasing the Social Pension of Indigent Senior Citizens.”
Ang RA 11916 ay naging ganap na batas noong July 2022.
Sa ilalim nito, magkakaroon ng 100 percent increase sa monthly pension ng indigent senior citizens, kaya mula PHP500 ay magiging PHP1,000 ito.

Ang monthly social pension para sa senior citizens ay ibinibigay sa mga kuwalipikadong benepisyaryo, kabilang dito ang mga may sakit, may disability, walang permanenteng pinagkukunan ng ikabubuhay, at walang kapamilyang nagsusuporta.

Paliwanag pa ni Lopez, ituturing na kuwalipikado sa programa ang isang senior citizen kung wala itong natatanggap na pensiyon mula sa mga sumusunod:
- Social Security System (SSS)
- Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)
- Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO)
- Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association, Inc. (AFPMBAI)
- Iba pang private insurance company.

Sa kasalukuyan ay nasa 4,085,066 indigent senior citizens ang nasasaklaw ng social pension program para sa kasalukuyang taon, at makatatanggap ng kanilang monthly stipend.
