Matapos ang isang siglo at higit isang dekada, o 111 years, hihinto na ang operasyon ng Philtranco Service Enterprises, Inc. o Philtranco.
Ang Philtranco ang pinakamatandang transport service sa Pilipinas at sa Asya.
Ang huling biyahe nito ay hanggang sa March 29, 2026 na lamang.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that I announce the Official Business Stop Operation of Philtranco Service Enterprises, Inc., effect March 30, 2026,” ayon sa memorandum na inilabas noong February 2, 2026.
Ang memorandum, na Official Notice of Business Operation, ay galing mismo kay Michael M. Sabban, president at chief executive officer ng transport company.
THE REASON FOR BUSINESS CLOSURE
Tinukoy sa memo ang mga dahilan kung bakit magsasara na ang kumpanya.
Ibinunyag na ilang taon nang nahihirapan ang management sa pagpapatakbo nito.
“For years, we have fought an uphill battle to keep our wheels turning.
“However, due to serious business losses we can no longer sustain our business operations,” ayon sa memo.
Ikinalulungkot daw nilang ipabatid ito sa lahat ng empleyado ng Philtranco.
Saad pa sa memo: “What This Means for You Due to the severity of these losses, the company is no longer in a position to sustain payroll.
“We are painfully aware of the impact this has on you and your families.
“This decision was our absolute last resort, made only after every other alternative was exhausted.
“A Legacy of Service Philtranco is more than a bus line; it is a century-long legacy built on your sweat and dedication.”
Pinasalamatan ni Sabban ang lahat ng drivers, conductors, pati na rin maintenance at office staff.

BUS LINE THAT IS PART OF HISTORY
Bahagi na ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas ang Philtranco.
Sa website ng National Historical Commission of the Philippines, naka-categorize itong institution marker.
Taong 1914, itinatag ng sundalong Amerikano sa Pilipinas na si Albert Louis Ammen ang transport company at ipinangalan sa kanya: ang Albert Louis Ammen Transportation Company o ALATCO.
Ang terminal nito ay sa Iriga, Camarines Sur, na siya ring ginawang garrison nang sakupin ng mga Hapon ang Pilipinas kasagsagan ng World War II.
Noong mga panahong iyon ay itinigil ang operasyon ng kompanya.
Muling nag-resume ang operations nito noong 1945 sa Tabaco, Albay.
Taong 1949 ay binili ito ng Philippine corporation na D. Tuason, Inc.
Sa parehong taon ay binili ulit ito ng isa pang Philippine company, ang Bicol Transport Company o BITRANCO.
Muli itong binili ng Consolidated Auto Lines (CAL) at Mindoro Transportation Company (MINTRANCO) noong 1954.
Naging co-owner naman ang Eastern Tayabas Bus Company (ETBCO) noong 1968.
Ang huling owner nito ay ang Mantrade Group of Companies, na binili at pinangalanang Pantranco South Express, Incorporated noong 1971.
Pinalitan nito ang pangalan na Philtranco Services Enterprises, Inc. noong 1985, and since then, naging famous mode of transport ng mga Pilipinong papunta sa Southern Luzon.
