Bukod sa malaking tulong sa kalikasan para mabawasan ang plastic wastes, ang paghahalo ng plastic sa aspalto ay nakadadagdag sa lifespan ng mga kalsada.
Inaprubahan na ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPHW) ang paggamit ng polyethylene terephthalate (PET) o plastic bottle wastes bilang “additive to enhance and extend the lifespan of asphalt-paved national roads.”

Hindi ito ang unang programa ng DPWH na ihahalo ang plastic pagdating sa road construction.
Noong 2024, naging inisyatibo ng DPWH ang paggamit ng plastic bag wastes o low-density polythylene (LDPE), na inihahalo sa mixture sa paggawa ng mga kalsada.
Si DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan ang pumirma ng Department Order sa paggamit ng plastic bottle wastes sa road construction.
“Turning waste into valuable resource for building better and more roads is the future of public infrastructure development in the country,’ ani Bonoan.
“The public can expect more of these policies as we vow to continue to fund for these construction innovation.”
Inaasahang gagamitin na ng DPWH regional offices at district engineering offices ang plastic bottle wastes sa pagko-construct ng national roads.
