DAY 2 UPDATE: Manila International Film Festivsal (MIFF) 2024.
Maagang rumatsada sa film screenings nitong Enero 30, Martes, ang GomBurZa na nagpaunlak ng special Talkback Q&A with Enchong Dee, cinematographer Carlo Mendoza, director Pepe Diokno and producer Jeff Remigio sa fullhouse crowd nang may palakpakan sa dulo.
Ganoon din ang nangyari sa Firefly with Ysabel Ortega, writer Anj Atienza and producer Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.
Sinundan ito ng Talkback session ng Broken Hearts Trip with Christian Bables, and then Kampon with Beauty Gonzalez and Atty. Joji Alonso.

Nagkaroon din ng isang special session ukol sa Screen Actors Guild hosted by Giselle Tongi with a lot of Fil-Am actors like Jonjon Briones, Dante Basco, Vince Rodriguez III, atbp., with our counterparts Enchong Dee, John Arcilla, and Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo.
Maganda at napag-usapan dito ang actor’s welfare, additional bayad from the residuals, health and dental support, at marami pang iba.
Nagtapos ang araw nang may magandang pagbati kay Tita Boots na birthday pa rin sa LA, at ng pagdating ni Papa Boyet de Leon (When I Met You In Tokyo) at ni Cedrick Juan (GomBurZa).

Nag-coverage ang kaibigang Hollywood correspondent na si Bradford Adkins sa 49th MMFF Parade of Stars noong Disyembre 16 sa CaMaNaVa, maging sa Gabi ng Parangal noong Disyembre 27 sa New Frontier Theater sa Cubao, Quezon City.
Present din siya sa events ng inaugural Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) scheduled January 29, 2024 to February 2, 2024 sa Los Angeles, CA.
Kuwento ni Bradford via Messenger ngayong Pebrero 1, Huwebes ng madaling-araw (Manila time), “According to reports kagabi, SOLD OUT na ang Closing Night & Awards Gala scheduled on Friday, February 2 at the Directors’ Guild of America (DGA) Theater sa Beverly Hills, CA. Mahigpit daw kasi $275 per person ang ticket.
“The 6 Jurors met some of the actors last night at the VIP Lounge located at the TCL Chinese Mann Theaters located right smack in the middle of Hollywood tourist area.
“Whispers are loud na iba ang major winners sa MIFF kumpara sa MMFF. Clue: personal na tatanggap ng award trophies ang ilan sa major winners.
“I am predicting major wins for Rewind, GomBurZa, When I Met You In Tokyo, Broken Hearts Trip (yes, popular yung bucket list tourist destinations ng movie sa Fil-Ams!), and Firefly.”
Pakiwari ni Bradford, ang pinakamalakas na pelikula sa takilya ng MIFF ay ang When I Met You In Tokyo nina Vilma Santos at Christopher de Leon.
Pahayag ni Bradford, “I have been hearing consistently good comments sa mga nakapanood na here na mostly ‘aging’ Vilmanians.
“Di ba, the beautiful movie is about aging? Relate ang karamihang Pinoy here sa California because mostly are aging caregivers and home health and hospice business owners and employees that cater with the aging population of the USA.
“They super-loved the latest movie ni Ate Vi.
“It’s not to demean or belittle the popularity ng Rewind, Firefly, at GomBurZa.”
Ang best picture ng MMFF ay Firefly. Second best picture ang GomBurZa, third best picture ang Mallari, at fourth best picture ang When I Met You In Tokyo.
Best actress si Vilma Santos for When I Met You In Tokyo, at best actor si Cedrick Juan for GomBurZa.
Best supporting actress si Miles Ocampo for Family of Two (A Mother and Son Story), at best supporting actor si JC Santos for Mallari.
Best director si Pepe Diokno for GomBurZa. Wagi ng best screenplay si Angeli Atienza for Firefly, samantalang panalo si Carlo Canlas Mendoza ng best cinematography for GomBurZa.
Sinu-sino naman kaya ang mapipili ng MIFF jurors? Sa anim na MMFF 2023 best actor nominees, inaasahang dadalo sa MIFF Closing Night & Awards Gala sina Cedrick Juan, Dingdong Dantes, Piolo Pascual, Christopher de Leon, at Alden Richards. Waley si Derek Ramsay.
Sa anim na MMFF 2023 best actress nominees ay dalawa lang ang nasa U.S. ngayon, sina Eugene Domingo at Beauty Gonzalez. Absent sina Vilma Santos, Marian Rivera, Sharon Cuneta, at Pokwang.
Sa walong MMFF 2023 best supporting actor nominees, sina Dingdong Dantes at Enchong Dee lang ang present sa MIFF. Wala sina JC Santos, Epy Quizon, Tommy Alejandrino, Pepe Herrera, Dante Rivero, at Romnick Sarmenta.
At sa limang MMFF 2023 best supporting actress nominees, bukod tanging si Janella Salvador ang nasa MIFF. Wala roon sina Miles Ocampo, Alessandra de Rossi, Gloria Diaz, at Agot Isidro.

May ilang kaibigan nga namin sa Amerika ang nagparating sa amin ng ideya kung sinu-sino ang winners sa MIFF.
Pero may saysay pa ba ito pagkatapos nilang kunin ang mga pelikula ng MMFF at isasali sa ginawa nilang filmfest?
Kung ginamit nila ang sampung pelikula ng MMFF para sa kanilang MIFF, bakit hindi nila tanggapin ang winners ng MMFF dito sa Maynila?
Kung may ibang pelikulang hindi MMFF entry ang kasali sa MIFF sa Amerika, baka puwede pa dahil parang pangkalahatan na ito, kumbaga!
Inaasahan na kasi na iba ang choices nila, at ewan ko kung tumugma iyon sa una nilang sinasabing dadalhin nila sa Amerika ang Metro Manila Film Festival. Bakit hindi pati ang winners?
Samantala, kagaya ng MMFF dito nung nakaraang buwan, may mga ilan ding pelikulang hindi talaga tumugma sa panlasa ng mga kababayan natin sa Amerika. Pero ang mahalaga ay ramdam na roon ang saya ng MMFF na ginagawa natin tuwing Pasko.
Hindi na rin mahalaga na maglabas pa sila ng topgrosser, kasi iilang araw lang yun at limited lang naman ang schedule ng screening.
Undisputed topgrosser ng 49th MMFF ang Rewind nina Dingdong Dantes at Marian Rivera.
Ito ang highest-grossing Filipino film of all time — hindi adjusted sa inflation — worldwide man, o domestic gross ang pag-uusapan.

Itong Rewind pa lang ang pelikulang Pinoy na lumampas sa P900M ang global gross, at inaantabayanan kung aabot ba ito sa P1B mark.
As of January 31 ay palabas ang Rewind sa mga sinehan sa Canada, USA, Singapore, Guam, Saipan, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, at Oman.
Pebrero 4, Linggo ang showing ng DongYan super-blockbuster sa Hong Kong.
