Along the way, I was given the privilege to grow not just as an actress but also as a director. It’s for the Filipino people. It’s about our identity. Our struggles, our resilience, our hope. And most especially, our faith."

“Ngayong gabi ay I feel so blessed really. Nakatayo ako dito sa inyong harapan with a heart overflowing with gratitude,” sabi ni Gina.

“Maraming salamat, Direk Joey Reyes, at sa Film Development Council of the Philippines [FDCP] for this honor.”

"LONG OVERDUE" RECOGNITION FOR GINA ALAJAR

“And sabi niya sa akin, ‘It’s long overdue.’

“You know, to be recognized during the Philippine Film Industry Month is truly humbling.

“Lalung-lalo na at times when others may try to pull you down, this recognition reminds me to trust and honor the talent that God has blessed me with.

Along the way, I was given the privilege to grow not just as an actress but also as a director.

“It’s for the Filipino people. It’s about our identity. Our struggles, our resilience, our hope. And most especially, our faith.

“Being here tonight ay hindi lamang po dahil sa aking journey sa industriyang ito, but most importantly, it’s about all the women who came before me, the many women working beside me now, and to all the women who are honored here tonight.

“Bow ako sa inyong lahat, you have my respect — Kelly [Raquel Villavicencio], Miss Malou [Santos], Mareng Lee [Briones-Meily], si Inang [Olivia Lamasan].

“At sino pa yung isa?

“This award belongs to every Filipina who continues to fight for her place in cinema.

“I am deeply grateful and I dedicate this award to my children, nandito ang isa, panganay.

“My two grandchildren who are here, Catalina and Luis. First time nilang um-attend sa ganitong event, and they’re so excited.

“To my colleagues, my mentors, Lino Brocka, Gil Portes, lahat ay naniniwala sa aking kakayahan.

“To the writers, to the directors, to the crew members, lahat ng nakasama ko sa trabaho.

“And to our audiences, maraming-maraming salamat po for allowing us into your lives, for believing in the power of cinema to touch hearts and open minds.

“From the bottom of my heart, maraming salamat. Mabuhay ang FDCP! Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino! Mabuhay ang Pilipina! To God be the glory and the praise!”

“Yung siguro at the time na kahit na hindi naman ako masyadong matapang, I was perceived to be matapang. Yung ganyan.

“And those movies naman created a stir in the industry.

“Kasi, merong certain topics, e, na parang at that time, siguro it was advanced for its time, parang hindi pa masyadong aware yung mga tao sa mga nangyayari,” saad ni Gina.

“But ginawa na… yung Moral, we always say na it’s advanced for its time pero dumating na, andoon na, nagawa na.”
