Ini-announce na ng Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) ang shortlists sa 12 categories ng 98th Academy Awards o Oscars 2026.
Ligwak ang Magellan ni Lav Diaz sa shortlist ng kategoryang Best International Feature.
Laglag din ang dalawa pang “manok” ng Pilipinas — ang Food Delivery ni Baby Ruth Villarama sa Best Documentary, at ang Vox Humana ni Don Eblahan para sa Best Live Action Short Film.
Kaugnay nito, nagpahayag ng kanyang kalungkutan si Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairman Joey Reyes.
Pero nananatili ang kanyang pananalig sa kakayahan ng Pinoy filmmakers.
Facebook post niya ngayong Miyerkules ng umaga, Disyembre 17, 2025:
"Ok. I'm heartbroken now. We may have fallen short to make it to the list BUT that does not mean we cannot do it. Let this be a challenge rather than a judgment.
"We will DESERVE it. We are Filipinos."

Ang siyam pang kategoryang ini-announce na ang shortlists sa 98th Academy Awards ay para sa animated short film, casting, cinematography, documentary short, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, sound, at visual effects.
Nominations voting begins on Monday, January 12, 2026, and concludes on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Twenty-four categories will be awarded at the 98th Oscars.
Each category has five nominees, except for Best Picture, which has 10.
Best Picture nominations are determined by eligible members from all 19 Academy branches.
All rounds of Oscars voting are conducted by secret online ballot, tabulated by the independent accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The 98th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
