Noong Setyembre 23, 2026 Miyerkules nag-open sa local cinemas ang animated films na Plump Blossom at Forgotten Island.
Noong araw ring iyon nag-umpisa ang 3rd Puregold CinePanalo filmfest kung saan pitong pelikula ang kalahok — Multwoh (Patay na Patay sa ‘Yo), Patay Gutom, Stuck On You, Apol of My Ai, Wantawsan, Beast, at Mono No Aware.
May apat pang foreign films na nag-umpisa ang showing sa local cinemas umpisa noong Wednesday.
Ang mga ito ay Heart of the Beast, Z-Zone, Uranus 2324, at Avengers: Endgame Encore na may pa-first look sa Avengers: Doomsday.
PLUMP BLOSSOM
Suportado ng Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) ang animated film na Plump Blossom.

Inamin niya na nabawasan ng mga sinehan ang Plump Blossom. Napupuno raw ang mga block screening nito, pero iyong mga regular screening ay mahihina. Inaasam niya na panoorin ito ng moviegoers this weekend dahil pampamilya ito.
Ang principal voice cast ng Plump Blossom ay sina Candice Tan, Don Puno, Gutch Gutierrez, Chad Williams, Yeng Her, at Audie Gemora.
Featured vocalists sina Paulina Yeung at Rafael Sundayan.

PATAY GUTOM AT CINEPANALO 2026
May animation ang Patay Gutom na bida sina Khalil Ramos at Ian Pangilinan, sa direksyon nina Ian Pangilinan at Carl Joseph Papa.
Si Carl Joseph Papa ang nagdirek ng animated films na Iti Mapukpukaw at 58th (na eligible sa kategoryang best documentary ng 99th Academy Awards o Oscars).
Sabi ni Direk Carl Joseph sa gala night ng Patay Gutom noong Setyembre 25, Biyernes, sa Cinema 11 ng Gateway Mall 2, Quezon City, hindi niya nasabi sa audience sa mga screening ng 58th na sana’y ma-enjoy nila iyong movie.
Pero sa gala ng Patay Gutom sabi ni Direk Carl: “Masasabi ko na — sana, ma-enjoy nyo po yung pelikula! Marami pong salamat!”
Pahayag naman ni Direk Ian: “Ang film po namin ay isang film na puno ng pagmamahal. Ito ay tungkol sa… kung paano nakikita ang pagmamahal sa isang mahirap na sitwasyon.
Pagtatatapat ni Direk Carl Joseph: “It’s actually pangalawang try ko ito doing live action… pero hindi ko pa rin mabitawan ang pagmamahal ko sa paggawa ng animation.
“Saka pag-push ng kung ano pang mga puwedeng ikuwento through animation.”
Isinusulong nila iyong mga kuwentong hindi karaniwang tinatalakay sa animated films.
Ipinakilala ni Direk Carl Joseph ang buong animation team ng Patay Gutom, at ang lakas ng sigawan at palakpakan ng audience.

As of September 26, Saturday morning, ang FORGOTTEN ISLAND ay Certified Fresh at 95% on the Tomatometer, with 80 reviews, sa Rotten Tomatoes.
Bali-balita rin na on track na $15M-$17M lamang ang magiging opening weekend gross ng Forgotten Island sa North America.
If so, mapapasama ito sa pinakamabababang opening weekends ng Dreamworks.

HEART OF THE BEAST
“The truth of the matter is that my first intention after watching Heart of the Beast last night at the Ayala Mall Cinemas in Manila Bay was to promote it.
“And while I was exiting Cinema 5, some thoughts kept on running in my head: This is a Brad Pitt film, he is one of the producers, I love dogs, and throughout the film I was at the edge of my seat, wishing the film to end because I could almost not stand the struggles Brad Pitt’s character and Odin the dog were going through.
“I kept on telling myself, it’s only a movie, but the weight of the idea that it could happen in real life was so powerful, which made me more disturbed. In short, I was so glued to it, and I loved the film.
“Another thing that made me so bothered was that there were less than 10 people inside the theater, and I wondered why. If there are only a few people who really appreciate dog films, what about Brad Pitt’s following and charisma?
“So I was very much determined to write a post to promote Brad Pitt’s film as part of my advocacy for Respect for Dogs.
“But as soon as I exited the main door of Cinema 5, I saw the poster of CinePanalo at Cinema 6, which carried the POSTER of my own film, BEAST! SHORTCHANGED AND GUILTY
“Suddenly, I felt shortchanged and guilty. Oh my… I actually have my own film to promote about a farmer and his carabao (our National Animal), as part of the PUREGOLD initiative to serve Filipino audiences with truly Philippine kinds of films that promote our culture, sensibility, and excellence.
“Simultaneously, it’s still Philippine National Cinema Month, and here I am, planning to promote a foreign and a Brad Pitt film for the reason that I was so disappointed with the turnout of audiences watching it.
“With embarrassment to myself, since my film is also trying to figure out where the audiences went, an old question overtook my prior disposition, and it was as if my brain stumbled inside my head:
“Is it still the effect of the current status of cinema worldwide because of the streaming apps that are now very accessible on everyone’s personal screens?
“Is it the ticket price? Is it a promotional problem? Is the subject not interesting enough, or is it simply about genre?
“The last time I knew, the world film audience that broke the box office record this year was Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but AVATAR in 2009 still holds the highest, and Avengers: Endgame in 2019 holds the second place which made me surmise that it was all about fantastic production with highly graphic effects and cinematic stunts, with highly entertaining values that really draw people to mob the cinemas.
“And films which tackle personal problems and journeys are preferred by audiences to access on their personal screens these days.
“So it could be just appropriate that Rom-Coms, human or family drama films, and the likes, which could be easily appreciated on accessible personal screens, should appropriately have lower ticket prices in cinemas, for the other reason that their production cost is also a million times lower than sci-fi and fantastic films naturally, which could be more appreciated and appealing on wide or IMAX screens and therefore have the right to keep their higher ticket prices.
“And since I already forgot to do my first intention to promote Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast for the reasons I discussed above, because I should be promoting my own film, coincidentally with BEAST as its title, which I honestly mentioned is also experiencing the same fate despite its positive and good reviews, it is nice to appease myself with the conclusion that, ‘Eh kung Pelikula nga ni Brad Pitt, hindi nakakapuno ngayon ng theater, Pelikula ko pa.’
“But that is not the point.
WISH
“I still wish there should be ways for the concerned film people and theater owners to explore to keep our audiences appreciating our kind of Filipino films on the wide screen.
“Like, one good decision was to lower non-fantastic film tickets to half the price, and maybe lessen the tax, or require/encourage universities to participate, or what have you. Thank you, Puregold CinePanalo think tank and Organizers.
“And if the audience will still stay home and watch on their own personal screens despite a good review of a human or family drama, I can easily conclude that it is not about how beautiful the film was presented and told.
“I think it is also about genre.
“That there are genres that could be easily preferred to watch on our personal screens than on the wide screen anymore, and there are those films that can be highly appreciated on wide screens.
“And having said that, since my film is still showing, with good reviews and a lower ticket price, I wish you would have the time and the effort to support it at Ayala Malls Manila Bay Cinemas, or any Ayala Mall Cinemas, Gateway Mall Cinemas, and other theaters near you.
“But if you can’t, the two reasons, that films of this genre should lower the price of tickets, which we did, but that they could be easily appreciated on personal screens, will appease me.
“By the way, I will stand by my first position that I am not trying to compare my film with Brad’s, nor myself to an international heartthrob.
“But I am just so happy that we have films incidentally with the same word, BEAST, in their titles.
“We both have an animal as a co-actor, and, to tickle my pride, we were both recipients of the VOLPI CUP at the Venice Film Festival as Best Actors, from totally different years and genres. Him in The Assassination of Jesse James, 2007, and me in OTJ2, 2021.”

MMFF 2026 DEADLINE FOR FINISHED FILM SUBMISSIONS
Sa Setyembre 30, Miyerkules ng 5:00 ang deadline ng pagsusumite ng finished films para sa Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2026. Siyanga pala, noong Setyembre 17 ang deadline ng pagsusumite ng istorya para sa full-length category ng Cinemalaya 2027.
Nabalitaan ng PEP Troika mula sa isang insider na 388 entries ang pasok sa deadline.
