She’s really a great woman.

“She has helped the movie industry for many, many years, up to now. It’s really ano... very deserving that this award is for her.”

Katuwang si Manay Ichu sa pagtatag ng Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), Philippine Motion Pictures Producers Association (PMPPA), Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP), at Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) kung saan pinangunahan niya ang International Film Festival Committee (IFFCOM).

Kabilang sa 12 pelikulang prinodyus ni Manay Ichu ang Batch ‘81 (1982, directed by Mike de Leon, starring Mark Gil), Pakawalan Mo Ako (1981, directed by Elwood Perez, starring Vilma Santos, Christopher de Leon & Anthony Castelo), at Dyesebel (1978, directed by Anthony Taylor, starring Alma Moreno & Mat Ranillo III).

NOEL FERRER: I would have wanted to be there to honor Manay Ichu, pero kasabay ng LEVEL UP radio program ko kagabi.

In any case, the FDCP staff interviewed me for the VTR presentation honoring her and yes, Manay Ichu truly deserved the recognition.

I worked and am closely working with her for the Metro Manila Film Festival.

We are compiling everything so that we have a solid book on the history and development of the MMFF which will be our humble contribution for the Centennial of Philippine Cinema next year.

Magandang gesture on the part of the FDCP in honoring our allies and institutions na may malaking papel at kontribusyon sa ating industriya.

Maraming salamat, Manay Ichu!

JERRY OLEA: All’s well that ends well.

“This is a very, very special occasion,” lahad ni Liza.

“It’s a very, very special event. Something that’s very, very close to my heart because isa rin po akong ina.

“And this is supposed to be a Mother’s Day celebration, but we are here to celebrate and honor one of the matriarchs of Philippine cinema who has really pushed and elevated our industry.

“I really don’t know Manay Ichu personally, and the very few occasions that we got to meet, medyo hindi pa po maganda ang atmosphere.

“Hahahaha! So, I think it was very unfortunate that we never got to talk in person.

“But I know of her because of the stories shared by personal friends like Tita Boots Anson-Roa, Sir Wilson Tieng, and they tell me stories about Manay Ichu, and how passionate she is for Philippine cinema.”
