An estimated crowd of 20,000 trooped to the Madison Avenue in New York City last June 6, to celebrate the 112th Philippine Independence Day, which is being organized each year by the Philippine Independence Day Committee Inc. (PIDCI).
The event started at 1:00 p.m.with a grand parade—from 38th St. to the 28th St. East Manhattan—which showcased our Filipiniana costumes and native dances. Over 140 Filipino organizations from all over the U.S.A. participated in the celebration. Some flew in from the Washington State, Boston,Virginia, and California.
And the highlight: the TFC (The Filipino Channel) Float, where Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista, Carlo Orosa, and Atty. Michael Garfinkel stood, waving the Philippine flag to cheering fans.
At 4:00 p.m., a concert was staged on Madison Avenue. Fans had the chance to listen to Christian Bautista's rendition of "Beautiful Girl" and "Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile," Carlo Orosa's version of "Impossible Dream," and Sarah Geronimo's well-applauded songs "You Changed My Life" and "Magkaisa."
Also present to greet the crowd was cosmetic surgeon Dra. Vicky Belo.
