Her colorful life is an open book to the public.
That's one of the consequences in being Dra. Vicki Belo, beauty doctor to most stars and the lady on top of the multi-billion-dollar empire Belo Medical group.
Add the fact that her lovelife had often hit the headlines.
To this day, even if she's "just friends" with her ex-husband Atom Henares and ex-fiancé Hayden Kho Jr., she still gets the "'musta na ang buhay pag-ibig" question from the showbiz press.
But on the eve of December 3, she showed another facet of her personality— being boss to hundreds of employees.
She gathered all of them in a star-studded Christmas party, where doctors, facialists, administrative personnel, marketing, I.T, and finance people did some Clubbin' at the grand ballroom of Dusit Thani Hotel Manila.
AS THE BOSS. She's not really that approachable.
This she admitted to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview.
"Si Cristalle yun… She knows the names of everybody."
She's not a "very hands-on person" either.
"I trust the people. I believe in them. And I'm kind of more a big-picture person."
The key to the success of her 22-year-old company, she said, is "hiring the right people with the right attitude."
Dra. Vicki underscored, "You train them properly and then you make them believe in the vision," which is, "make people happy by making them beautiful, giving them self-confidence."
At the party, 17 branches and departments competed in the best interpretation of a music video contest.
Competition was evident, but what prevailed was the fun and camaraderie.
The beauty doctor said, "It's not really about the salary or we pay them well. But it's more about giving back to the society, believing the vision.
"Kasi I think if you ask them why they're with Belo, it's because they know they're contributing to people's lives."
She's known for her generosity, but the mother of two clarified, "It's not a dole-out thing. I am not the one who gives everything."
Every Christmas, her employees are encouraged to help, and "I always match what they want to do...."
She cited the Alabang and Greenhills branches as examples. The former, she said, helped an institution looking into the welfare of battered women, while the latter chose to support an orphanage.
"So they give back within the community as a collective effort... And I always tell, whatever you give, I will match. So that's also something coming from them."
Another factor that makes for the growth of business— employees have to love what they do.
Dra. Vicki said, "I think they feel very blessed to be where they are. That they have a good job, they have a job that they're happy with. And they like to share within their community."
AS "FAIRY GODMOTHER". That evening, those who have been with her company for many years were given incentives.
"I like the award thing. You see, what I'm trying to do is expand their world," she explained.
Aside from praising their loyalty, she recognizes the efforts of deserving employees by giving them "experiential" rewards.
"When I talk to them about their dreams, it's always about travel," hence, she's thinking of bringing them to Boracay.
Some lucky members of the staff also had the chance to watch the concert of Jennifer Lopez.
"A lot of them wanted to see her, so I gave tickets. To them, it’s a dream come true to meet JLo..."
And whether she's assuming the roles of mother, cosmetic surgeon, employer, and even girlfriend, she likes to "think of myself as a fairy godmother."
Smiling, she remarked, "I really like making dreams come true for everybody."
One thing she can't do, however, is what Cristalle recently did: "Immersion."
Her daughter went to Tara Island in Palawan, and had a rice-and-salt meal with a poor family. (CLICK HERE to read story)
Laughing, Dra. Vicki remarked, "What makes her happy, going to the outreach. Me, I’ll give money but I will not actually do it [immersion]."
THE MOST-ASKED QUESTION. We ended the interview by asking about the status of her lovelife.
At the party, she was seen talking to Hayden twice, but she underlined, "Wala pa rin."
Despite their controversial breakup early this year, she and her former boyfriend had decided to let bygones be bygones.
"Oo naman, matagal na. Lagi naman, si Atom din," she affirmed.
She didn't deny, "Mahal ko pa rin naman siya, e, di ba. At saka parang anak ko din siya. It’s not lovelife as in lovelife...."
But she's happy, and wants to remain that way.
"Kasi ang dami na naming pinagdaanan, di ba. Hindi ko na kaya yung dadaanan ko uli, if ever.
"As of now, I’m finding our balance. Atom and I are getting close again..."
At the end of our interview, Dra. Vicki Belo made a wish: "Wala lang, no more heavy-heavy drama. Para hindi na ako masa-sad, di ba."
