Petron Blaze cager Arwind Santos says his wife Ivette doesn't like watching scary movies. So, he compromises instead by taking her to watch films that both of them can enjoy.

Basketball player and Petron Blaze star Arwind Santos loves action movies.

Among his early favorites is the 1987 action- and adventure-packed RoboCop by director Paul Verhoeven.

It is the primary reason why he and his wife Ivette were among the many celebrities who trooped to watch the special screening of the film's 2014 remake, at the grand opening of the new IMAX Theater and Director’s Club Cinema at SM Megamall’s Mega Fashion Hall.

“Unique! Kaya bumalik… Astig!,” says the Kapampangan cager about the movie, during an interview with (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on February 6.

CHILDHOOD MOVIES. Aside from RoboCop, Arwind is in awe of of other adventure superhero flicks, like Hulk, Superman, Spiderman, and even the Filipino fiction hero Captain Barbel.

Like every other guy, he grew up watching cartoons, which is why he is also fond of the cartoon series Diamos and Voltes V on TV.

But, he admits that the thing that really tickles his fancy as a viewer, whether in movies or television, is the unique flavor of local humor.

He says, he grew up watching a lot of Tagalog movies.

"[Iyong mga] panahon ni Dolphy like iyong Home Along Da Riles,” which counts as one of his all-time favorites.

MOVIE DATE. Accordingly, Arwind and Ivette usually watch movies during their “monthsaries.”

And when it comes to choosing a movie to watch, he admits that his wife always wins.

“May gusto ako na hindi niya talaga kaya. Like, scary movie, ayaw niya!

"Pero pinag-uusapan naman namin,” he says about their usual scenario before falling in line at the ticket booth.

And what convinces him to watch a particular movie?

“Number one, istorya. Hindi iyong gumaganap.

"Mabisa kasi nadadala ng istorya kung sino man iyong artista.

"Kahit hindi siya sikat, pero sa ganda ng istorya, maaalala mo kung sino ang gumanap.”

HIS LIFE FOR REEL. Asked if his life is made into a movie, who among the local actors would he tap to portray as himself, Arwind answers: “Siyempre, si Pareng Vhong! Pinag-usapan na namin iyan one time.”

The Pareng Vhong he was pertaining to was actor-TV host Vhong Navarro, who happens to be his good friend.

Although Vhong stands at only 5'8", compared to Arwind's 6'3", the comedian could easily fit into the role of Arwind in a biopic, as he has that similar lean body frame.

Also, Arwind and Vhong hang out a lot, so he practically knows his subject more than anyone else in showbiz.

ON VHONG NAVARRO. Speaking of the It's Showtime host, he continues to face the scandal that rocked his career and personal life on January 22.

Last February 6, Vhong submitted to the Department of Justice his supplemental affidavit on the charges filed against alleged suspects Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo, et. al.

The charges included serious physical injuries, grave threat, grave coercion, unlawful arrest, blackmail, and serious illegal detention.

As Vhong's friend, asked Arwind on what he has to say about the whole unfortunate incident.

“Bilang kumpare, I always pray for him na sana maayos ang problema.

"Lumabas kung ano ang totoo. Ako naniniwala sa side ni Vhong. Kitang-kita ko na nasa kanya iyong tama.”
