Scrolling through beauty content often comes with an endless stream of hacks, trends, and product recommendations.

Some tips work for certain people. Others leave viewers wondering why the same routine produces a completely different result.

For beauty content creator and TikTok star Pau Pelaez, one of the most common makeup problems has a surprisingly simple fix.

It does not require expensive products or an elaborate routine.

Instead, it starts with giving every step enough time before moving to the next one.

In an exclusive interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) during TikTok Philippines' Own Your Beautiful: A Beauty Masterclass on July 8, 2026, Pau shares the beauty habits she swears by.

She also opens up about skincare, makeup misconceptions, and why experimenting can help people discover what suits them best.

WHY YOUR MAKEUP BASE TURNS CAKEY

Pau believes many people rush through their makeup routine without realizing how much it affects the finished look.

Asked about the biggest beauty mistake she often sees on social media, she points to one habit that can make even the best products perform poorly.

"Biggest mistake, I think, yung kaninang sinabi ko na pag kada layer ng makeup or kahit skin prep, hindi mo na pinapatuyo.

"Kasi, after skin prep tapos foundation agad, doon talaga nagiging parang cakey. Doon nagiging pangit yung base kasi need mo talaga siyang patuyuin, like, skincare, patuyuin.

"Foundation, patuyuin. Concealer, patuyuin bago powder. Kasi doon talaga nagke-cake."

Her advice centers on patience between each step.

Allowing skincare products to settle before applying foundation can help create a smoother base.

The same idea applies throughout the rest of the routine.

She recommends giving foundation enough time before concealer, then waiting again before setting everything with powder.

The process may take a little longer, yet Pau believes it can improve the overall finish more than adding extra products to the routine.

THE SKINCARE ROUTINE SHE FOLLOWS BEFORE AND AFTER MAKEUP

Wearing a full face of makeup for several hours has become part of Pau's work as a content creator.

Because of that, skincare remains a priority once filming ends.

She shares that her nighttime routine begins with cleansing before moving on to treatment products.

"First is facial wash tapos toner. Tapos azelaic acid kasi sensitive ang skin ko. Azelaic acid tapos niacinamide. Sa nighttime ito. Niacinamide. Tapos, heavy moisturizer. Yun."

Before putting on makeup, hydration takes center stage.

"Tapos, before naman mag-makeup, usually is hilamos, toner, tapos moisturizer talaga na talaga super, super nakaka-hydrate. Yun ang routine ko talaga."

Pau explains that her skincare choices reflect the needs of her sensitive skin.

She also places importance on moisturizing before makeup application, since hydrated skin can provide a better canvas for foundation and other complexion products.

MAKEUP DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY CAUSE ACNE

Another beauty belief Pau hopes to correct involves acne and makeup.

Many people avoid wearing makeup because they worry it will worsen existing breakouts.

Based on her own experience, Pau does not see makeup itself as the culprit.

She says: "Based on my experience talaga, never lumala ang pimples or acne ko dahil sa makeup.

"It will all become malala talaga pag di mo siya natanggal nang maayos. Doon talaga siya.

"Kasi never talaga magiging reason ang makeup. Magiging reason siya pag na-clog yung pores mo which is paano nga ba magko-clog yung pores? Kapag di mo siya natanggal nang maayos.

"So, yun ang pinaka-tip ko. Huwag kayong matakot sa pag-wear ng makeup kasi baka lumala yung acne niyo.

"Hence, mas mag-invest kayo ng time sa pagtanggal. Yun lang po."

For Pau, proper makeup removal deserves as much attention as makeup application.

Spending enough time cleansing at the end of the day can help prevent clogged pores, which she considers the bigger concern.

She hopes this reminder encourages people with acne to feel more confident wearing makeup if they enjoy it, while making skincare after makeup part of the routine.

The same mindset extends beyond skincare.

When asked for one beauty tip that anyone can follow regardless of skin type, Pau encourages people to become more adventurous with their makeup choices.

"Siguro ano, pag-experiment ng blush placement talaga kasi pansin ko parang isa po yun sa parang takot ang karamihan. Sa blush talaga.

"Kasi yung blush talaga unang makikita sa yo. Yun yung parang tip ko talaga. Huwag kayong matakot mag-experiment. Kahit in general, in body.

"It's experimenting in makeup and anything talaga."

Blush placement has become one of the biggest makeup talking points in recent years.

Different placements can change how the face appears, which makes it a popular area for beauty enthusiasts to personalize.

For Pau, beauty has room for curiosity.

Trying new techniques can help people discover what complements their own features instead of relying on a single trend.

Her advice suggests that confidence often begins with giving yourself permission to explore, whether that means adjusting your blush placement or finding a skincare routine that works for your own skin.
