Mariel Padilla has been on a hiatus from showbiz to focus on her family.

Not that she has been idle and doing nothing at all.

In fact, the 37-year-old mom of two has found her calling as a live seller and a vlogger.

Mariel had a one-on-one interview with PEP.ph via Zoom on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Mariel started selling some of her pre-loved items through live streaming on March 15, 2022.

She just wanted to try and find out what it was like to be a live seller until she reached the point when she found herself truly immersed in it—and enjoying it.

'Tapos they always tell me na, 'Hoy, nanonood kami ng live mo!'

I have so much fun doing it."

HOW IT STARTED

Mariel became interested in the business from watching online sellers from Japan hawking pre-loved designer items.

"As in may time, gabi-gabi!

"Kasi meron siyang high kapag ikaw yung naka-mine nung item. 'Tapos alam mo yun?

Mariel then decided to sort out her trove of luxury items and choose which ones she could let go, forming along the way a team of experts to help her get started in live selling.

She said, "So far, all the things are from me. They're all my things so alam ko that they are authentic.

"Although yung last ko, I had some items from Pia Wurtzbach and also si Coleen Garcia.

"And then I have... yung back-end team ko na sila yung nagde-deliver.

"Kumuha ako ng partner who have been in the business for years.

Alam mo yun? Kailangan meron tayong people who are designated sa ganyan.

ROBIN'S REACTION

According to Mariel, her husband, the newly elected Senator Robin Padilla, has been very much supportive of her new endeavor.

But then again, she would also get reprimanded for her luxury shopping urges.

"'Oh my gosh, bakit siya ganun?'"

MARIEL ON "JOY RESERVERS"

Like many other live sellers, Mariel also has to deal with the so-called joy miners or joy reservers, those people who reserve an item without proceeding to buy.

One of those unbought reserved items was a YSL compact mirror that Mariel was selling for PHP3,000.

Mariel decided to resell it and to show her appreciation to the new buyer, she gave freebies: a PHP7,000-worth bike and a bottle of Mont Blanc Legend perfume.

She explained, "Mas mahal pa yung bike!

'tapos na-joy-joy! Na-joy to the world! Joy reserver yung nag-mine so binenta ko siya ulit.

"'Sa sobra kong saya na may nag-mine ulit dun sa YSL compact mirror na yun, dahil when you think about it, sino ba naman talaga yung sira-ulong bibili ng YSL compact mirror, di ba?

"So sobra kong happy na I'm not the only one pala. Meron ding isa pang sira-ulong tao na bibili ding YSL compact mirror."

Mariel also warned her social media followers about social media scams.

"Naaawa ako kasi ang dami ding na-i-scam. Pero sana, they'd be vigilant, di ba?

"Kasi merong time, kahit nasa Spain ako, nagla-live pa rin ako. Nirere-live nila yung mga live ko. I don't know kung paano sila kumikita from that!

"I don't know kung paano sila kumikita, but I think dun sa mga shipping fees, sa mga delivery ano, nagpapaano sila, hindi ko alam! Pero ang daming ganun!"

But a piece of good news to her social media followers and live selling fans, Mariel said she is now preparing for her next live selling session.

"I'm looking forward to my next. Naghahanap lang kami ng next na schedule, pero I will continue my live selling."
