Pops Fernandez is not the type to easily splurge on designer brands.
Before making a purchase, she has to convince herself "20 million times."
In her interview with PEP Spotlight, she rationalized, "Because at the end of the day, madami na akong gamit, hindi ko na kailangan pa.
"Minsan, kunwari, syempre mga brand names, may gusto ako, kinu-convince ko pa yung sarili ko 20 million times."
Pops would often hold off purchasing an item to give herself more time to decide if it would be worth buying.
"Kailangan yung hindi ako makatulog. Hindi ba ako nakatulog? Inisip ko ba yung bag na yun?
"Normally, nakakatulog ako, e. So ibig sabihin, it's a sign. I don't need it.
"Pag the next day, yun pa rin na naisip ko, naku, kailangan ko yata bilhin kasi hindi ko siya makalimutan."

The funny thing is, she often finds herself feeling regretful after making the purchase.
She continued, "Pag binili ko na, mga one week, nagsisisi na ako. Bakit ba? E, bag lang naman ito. Ano ba? May sisi factor.
"Hindi naman ako mabilang na ganyan. Like I said, pag may kailangan ako, I'll buy it."
But typical of Pops to feel guilty after buying an expensive item, like, "Oh my God, kailangan magtrabaho pala ako uli.
"You know what I mean? Ganun lang, it's just that whole process."
Having this mindset makes Pops more cautious with her spending ways.

POPS FERNANDEZ'S OTHER REASON FOR NOT BUYING DESIGNER BRANDS
Pops has another reason not to splurge on expensive fashion items, particularly those designed specifically for women.
Stated Pops, "Wala naman akong daughter. So, alam mo yun? So ito na, mas nagtipid pa ako lalo."
Pops has two sons, Robin and Ram, with ex-husband Martin.
"I think, I was just very subconscious about saving, saving, saving, saving.
"And thank God I was, because I benefited from it."
Pops too owns designer products but refrains from buying on impulse and avoids purchasing on a whim.

POPS FERNANDEZ's LUHO AS A TEENAGER
Pops also showed discipline beyond her young age when it came to her finances.
Not that she was depriving herself of material pleasures.
After all, she was young and with money of her own to spend on things that she liked.
But true to her promise as a kid, she saved most of the money she made from her showbiz projects.
"Siguro yung luho ko noong teenager ako is, ang uso noon, di ba, Esprit?" she looked back.
Esprit is an American clothing brand founded in 1968 and was popular among the young demographic during the 80s and 90s.
"Ever since mahilig na ako sa damit at mahilig na ako magdamit.
"So meron lang akong konting budget, Esprit, Benetton, iyan yung uso nung araw.
"Happy na ako noon. Other than that, wala naman akong gustong bilhin.
"Because nga, for me, it's not that I was conscious about saving.
"Siguro subconsciously nandun na iyan, but hindi ko naman rin tinitipid sarili ko."
