Sam Milby is currently at a critical juncture with his health, revealing in an Instagram post that he has been diagnosed with a chronic illness.
On June 25, 2024, Sam shares with his fans the unfortunate news that he is suffering from Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).

His caption begins with a realization that he has always thought of himself as a healthy person (published as is): "I don't have a sweet tooth, bihira din mag junk food, pero last year I found out na may type 2 diabetes na ako."
Aside from leading a healthy lifestyle, his immediate family has no history of diabetes.
"My parents and grandparents never had it. I just wish I got checked up earlier nung pre diabetes pa."
The 40-year-old actor ends his post by adding his advice: "Don't ignore the symptoms (my main symptoms - always thirsty and urinating often) and get checked up regularly."
Sam's message comes along with a photo of his glucose meter, revealing a reading of 525 milligrams per deciliter.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), normal fasting blood glucose concentration ideally ranges between 70 and 100 mg/dL.
Throughout the day, postprandial (after eating) blood glucose levels should be less than 140 mg/dL, with an average range of 160 to 180 mg/dL to remain within normal limits.
While the meter shows the time of reading, 4:17 P.M., Sam's post does not indicate if he has broken his fast at the time of the reading.
Regardless, his excessive blood glucose concentration prompts the Cornerstone artist to pay more attention to his health.

SAM'S IDEAL APPROACH TO HEALTH
Nearly two years ago in November 2022, Sam talked about pairing his fitness grind with more healthy habits, at the launch of his latest endorsement for Beautederm.
"Through the years, I learned the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle because of the challenging lifestyle that I have as an actor which could affect the wellbeing of both my mind and body," he told the press.
"I need to ensure that I am always in the best physical condition through regular exercise and the right diet coupled with the right amount of sleep."

This was not an abrupt choice because as far back as 2013, Sam has already been intentional about advocating for healthy living.
Already a two-time Men’s Health Philippines magazine cover boy at the time, he gave some health and fitness tips with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
"Get inspiration! Get a goal kung anong gusto mong… kung ilang pounds ang gusto mong i-lose," he said.
"Get someone who'll be able to push you. Kasi pag mag-isa [ka,] it's harder."
He elaborated: "Kung tamad ka mag-gym, yung ka-partner mo [sasabihin], ‘Sige na, punta ka na.’ [And] you'll go."
After getting past the rut, he highlighted the importance of commitment and persistence.
"The hard thing with gym-ing and with diet is yung sanayan. Kailangan maging sanay," he reflected.
"In the first week or two it’s hard because you’re not used to a diet, you're not used to working out, your body's not used to feeling the sores.
"But, after you get over that, kumbaga yung hump of the diet or the gym-ing, mas madali, e.
"Nag-e-enjoy [ka] na. It becomes second nature. So you just have to push yourself to get over that hump! And then after that, okay na."
Finally, he tackled the defining role of discipline: "Find time. I mean don’t say, ‘Okay, mag-ji-gym ako ngayon.
"Set the time, don't just say I'm going to the gym today. Set the time if it's this time in the morning or this time in the day, ‘I'm going to work out at this time,’ tapos punta ka.
"Be specific on when and what you’re going to do."
He concluded: "Disciplining yourself on what you eat. For me, diet ang pinaka-importante sa akin dahil wala akong time mag-work out.
"Find a certain sport or hobby that is physical that you like to do. Kasi dapat nage-enjoy ka sa exercise."
Sam stated back then that his diet consists of mostly protein and that he tries to avoid pasta, sweets, and soda as much as he can.
