Vitamin C is arguably one of the most common vitamins.

Aside from Vitamin D, which the body can naturally get through sun exposure, Vitamin C is widely found in drinks, fruits, and multivitamins.

It is also among the most affordable supplements available.

But despite its popularity, there are still many lesser-known facts about this water-soluble nutrient, also known as ascorbic acid.

Here are some key takeaways from the opening day of the Watsons Mom & Baby at SM Mall of Asia Atrium, on May 8, 2026.

GENTLER VITAMIN C

Ms. Gen Duran, head of regulatory affairs of Stada Philippines, the company behind Fern-c, mentions that some people get stomach upset when taking Vitamin C tablets.

Her recommendation is to choose Sodium Ascorbate, which is a buffered form of Vitamin C.

According to most health websites, this "combines vitamin C with sodium to make it less acidic."

Duran says, "It is gentler on the tummy."

Other forms of buffered vitamin C include calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate (or mineral ascorbate), and potassium ascorbate.

All are less acidic than pure ascorbic acid, but it’s important to check the label for the actual amount of vitamin C they provide, as their content can vary.

VITAMIN C FOR ENHANCED IMMUNITY

For those looking for an immunity boost, Vitamin C with zinc may be worth trying.

Duran explains: “Enhanced immunity would mean that you would like to have an enhanced immune defense.

"You’d like to add a very important component with this, which is zinc, so that you can actually make sure that when you have colds and flu, mas mabilis yung recovery.”

According to Healthline.com, “adequate zinc levels are needed for the body to fight infections effectively.”

This essential mineral also supports wound healing, collagen formation, and skin repair.

VITAMIN C WITH MORE BEAUTY BENEFITS

Vitamin C is widely known for its role in supporting immunity, but there are variants in the market that, according to Duran, are “para sa mga mommies at mga ladies” because they have extra beauty benefits.

Check out the products that include “marine collagen peptides.”

According to studies indexed by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, collagen peptide supplementation may help improve skin hydration and elasticity.

In simple terms, vitamin C supports the body’s natural collagen formation, marine collagen provides amino acids that help maintain skin structure, and peptides serve as building blocks that may support collagen production and skin repair.
