BUT WHY DO CELEBRITIES INSTALL HOME ELEVATORS?

For many celebrities, the decision to install elevators transcends mere luxury.

It's about practicality and accessibility, a seamless and convenient way to go up and down their multi-story homes.

Additionally, the presence of elderly family members often prompts the installation, ensuring they can access every part of the house with ease and safety.

This is the primary reason why Derek Ramsay has added an elevator to his three-story home in Alabang.

In a vlog published on YouTube on September 11, 2020, he said, "Since may edad na rin po ang parents namin, we have an elevator to bring them up."

Vice Ganda shared that his mother, Rosario Viceral, was his inspiration when conceptualizing the design of his new house.

He elaborated in a vlog on YouTube published last October 7, 2020, "May elevator kasi siyempre yung nanay ko kapag pupunta rito, sumasakit yung tuhod. Hindi niya na kakayanin umakyat kaya nagpagawa ako ng elevator for her."

THE COST OF HOME ELEVATORS

Installing a home elevator is like owning a car because of the cost it entails and the regular maintenance checks it requires.

HD Home Lifts, a home elevator provider in the Philippines, stated in its blog that "Homelifts typically range from 1 million to 4 million Philippine pesos.

"The price varies depending on factors such as ceiling height and the number of levels the client intends to use it for.

"Additionally, customization should be considered, as it can increase the overall cost."

Cibes Lift, known for its wide range of customizable, space-saving, and energy-efficient home lifts of high quality, presents options starting at PHP1.2 million for a two-story home and ranging from PHP2.9 million to PHP3 million for homes with three floors.

Kalea Lifts, another home elevator provider, offers a range starting at PHP1,300,000 and escalating to a staggering PHP5,000,000.

Certainly, numerous factors come into play in determining where within that range the final cost will fall.

Specifically, factors, such as size, material and design, and the number of stops are crucial.

Larger sizes and more stops naturally contribute to higher costs. The level of customization chosen by the client will also impact the overall price.

TYPES OF HOME ELEVATORS

In the Philippines, four commonly used types of home elevators are available, each with its own set of features and advantages.

  • HYDRAULIC: Hydraulic elevators use hydraulic fluid and a piston to move the car between floors. They require a machine room at the top and use hydraulic oil to ensure smooth movement.
  • TRACTION: Traction elevators, also known as cable-driven lifts, are commonly found in medium- to high-rise buildings. They use stainless steel ropes or cables and a traction system to move between floors.
  • PNEUMATIC: Pneumatic elevators, also called vacuum or air-driven, rely on air pressure to lift and lower the elevator car to different floors.
  • SCREW & NUT: Screw & nut elevators, also known as screw-driven lifts, move the car using a revolving screw mechanism.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING HOME ELEVATORS

To ensure a smooth and effective integration of a home elevator into one's living environment, these are some of the crucial factors to consider:

Technological Advancements

Modern home elevators boast advanced features aimed at enhancing convenience and functionality.

Look for models that offer integration with touch-screen devices and smartphone applications for effortless control.

Smart home compatibility allows seamless connectivity with other automation systems.

Additionally, customizable design options, such as personalized walls and RGB lights controllable via smartphone, add a touch of style to your elevator.

Energy Efficiency

Prioritize energy-efficient lifts to minimize environmental impact and reduce operational costs.

Opt for models equipped with LED lighting and regenerative drives, which offer eco-friendly design and energy-saving benefits.

Safety Features

Safety should be paramount when selecting a home elevator.

Choose lifts equipped with essential safety features, including Emergency Stop Buttons, battery backup systems for power outages, door and platform sensors, and overload protection mechanisms.

These features ensure safe operation and provide peace of mind for occupants.
