Heart Evangelista is mad about furniture.
To her, hunting for the perfect furniture piece is like a "never-ending adventure."
Heart told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "That's why I never really advise people—like when they get their house done... it's expensive to buy all the furniture all at once.
"It's really a journey. You create memories and you curate what's in your house... there's a story for each piece."
The chat with Heart happened after an event showing Rebisco's Special Edition Designer Cans last November 6, at Wack Wack Golf & Country Club.
The GMA-7 actress-host said she has always been on the lookout for good furniture at auction houses.
"If there's an auction house like Harringtons Lifestyle or Casa de Memoria, I'm always there looking for carpets or what," she revealed.
"A lot of people are actually very intimidated with auction houses because they feel like it’s expensive, but really, it’s not. It starts really low and it doesn't go really high."
Another way of economizing is to take advantage of people selling their furniture.
Heart said, "Whenever I find out that there's a hotel closing down or somebody's selling their house, I'm always there."
In fact, one of Heart's favorite furniture at home is a second-hand marble round table stand that holds her blue jar collection.
"I'm not sure if you see that. That was actually the round table from InterCon [InterContinental Manila] when it closed down.
"They sold some of their furniture, and I was able to buy that for—you will not believe it—less than PHP3,000."
Heart has fond memories of the five-star hotel in Makati that closed in 2015.
She specifically remembered eating at the hotel's Cafe Jeepney restaurant.
"When I was young, I used to eat a lot at the Jeepney restaurant in InterCon, and I used to see the table there all the time.
"Now that it's in my home, I think it's a conversational piece."
