Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla still consider themselves as budding entrepreneurs, even though they already have a number of businesses under their names.
In 2017, Kathryn opened her nail salon KathNails.
Daniel, for his part, became a co-owner of the gastropub District 8 that same year.
Then in 2019, the couple opened Barbero Blues, a barbershop.
How did the concept of Barbero Blues come about?
Daniel recalls one of his conversations with Kathryn's mom Min: "Kasi, siyempre ang KathNails, it's more on the women.
"Kapag nandun sila, saan pupunta mga asawa nila, di ba? Boyfriends nila, saan tatambay, di ba?
"So, naisip namin na, kunwari, siya nagpapa-nails siya, ako nagpapagupit ako. Doon nagsimula iyong barber shop na iyon.
"It's very young. Bagu-bago pa at inaaral pa namin ngayon."
Kathryn adds, "Bago pa lang kami dito, and we are still learning. Basta ang importante naman iyong willing ka matuto... It's part of adulting.
"Wala tayong kawalan dito. We have to learn. Importante nale-learn mo iyong proseso."
KATHRYN'S BUSINESS TIP: BUDGETING IS IMPORTANT
When talking about finances, Daniel admits his girlfriend Kathryn and her mom Min know more about this aspect than he does.
"Nagtatanong lang din ako sa kanya," the ABS-CBN idol says.
Kathryn then reiterates that her mom is the force behind her family's businesses.
The young Kapamilya actress says, "Siya nagga-guide sa amin. Totoo, grabe siya. Kung paano mag-handle ng money, mga tao. Lahat ng stress, grabe, si Mama iyon.
"Ang hirap kapag company. It's a whole new world for us kasi iba iyong artista, 'tapos iba pag pinasok mo iyong mundong ito."
What financial tips have Kathryn learned so far?
"Kasi with business, lahat iyan, e. Kahit piso iyan, ten pesos, lahat iyan nagma-matter kasi hindi lang iniisip mo dito kayo lang. Meron mga empleyado ka na may mga pamilya, so kailangan mo rin sila isipin."
"It's very important may record ka of everything."
She adds that it works to have a budget plan as well.
"Kunwari for a month, I'll say, budget ko for shopping, ito. Budget for food, budget for tao… Budgeting. It's very important."
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and the press interviewed Kathryn and Daniel on February 5, during the special event of PayMaya at Estancia Mall in Pasig City.
