LIFE BETWEEN LAND AND SEA

Pernilla Sjöö, born on December 6, 1985, is a Swedish photographer, drone pilot, and athlete whose life revolves around the ocean.

She first went on the radar of sports enthusiasts as an underwater photographer, capturing scuba divers in their most breathtaking moments, before immersing herself in the surf photography scene.

Through it, she aims to encapsulate the thrill, grit, and raw beauty of Siargao's waves and the people who conquer them.

Outside her camera work, Pernilla takes to the skies as a drone pilot, using aerial shots to document the island's pulse from morning runs to shifting tides.

In October 2023, Pernilla voiced her frustration over the undervaluation of photography, highlighting the significant time, effort, and financial investment her craft demands.

She wrote (published as is): "Thank you to everyone reaching out to me for photos and videos I appreciate you guys like my work.

"I know that all of you know the hard work that lays behind every image there is. From buying EXPENSIVE equipment to spending 12 years learning about underwater photography and now showing up everyday to learn about surf photography and be in the water during these crazy days it's definitely epiccc but at the same time exhausting and even scary.

"Then taking care and maintaining my gear + checking all the photos and edit.

"So if you feel that my photos and videos don't have a value pls don't ask for them. I'll promise you l'll go bitch mood hahaha"

After 12 years behind the lens, she knows better than anyone that flawless work doesn’t come easy.

LONG-STANDING CONNECTION TO THE PHILIPPINES

Pernilla has never been one to put down roots for too long, but the Philippines has become her home away from home.

On October 27, 2013, she packed her bags—just 30 kilos of luggage and a one-way ticket—and left Sweden to chase new adventures.

Over time, she became deeply integrated into local life where she formed strong friendships with both locals and expats.

A CAREER IN HOSPITALITY

Pernilla has held various roles in the hospitality industry over the years.

In 2021, she was based in Anilao, Batangas, where she worked as the General Manager of Solitude Acacia Resort.

The resort is known for its world-class diving spots, making it a perfect fit for her background as an underwater photographer.

After her stint in Batangas, she returned to Siargao and, in May 2023, became the guest relations manager at Greenhouse Siargao Eco Retreat and Cafe—an eco-friendly resort that perfectly aligns with her passion for sustainability and responsible tourism.

Pernilla Sjoo's alleged involvement in Andi Eigenmann-Philmar Alipayo split

The controversy surrounding Pernilla began when Andi hinted at relationship issues with Philmar through cryptic social media posts earlier this month.

She accused a "female friend" of betraying her trust and encouraging Philmar to break up with her.

Andi clarified that while she knew Philmar hadn’t cheated on her, she felt hurt because this friend allegedly encouraged getting a matching "couple tattoo" with him immediately after a fight.

She questioned the timing, wondering why it happened when Philmar was vulnerable.

And espite reaching out to the female friend for an explanation, Andi received no response.

This led her to publicly express her frustration, emphasizing that no person with good intentions would encourage a married man to get a couple tattoo without considering his partner’s feelings.

Philmar, for his part, chose not to deny the accusations and simply thanked those who believed in him.

Meanwhile, Pernilla deactivated her Instagram account after deleting the post about their matching tattoos.

In a report by GMA News on February 9, 2025, Pernilla seemed to have responded to the backlash through an Instagram post before deactivating her account.

It read: "I just don't understand why some people have so much hate in their minds and bodies. I hope that if you ever make a hurtful comment, you can still sleep peacefully at night and smile knowing you've caused someone pain. I'm still human din naman. I still feel hurt, and when it's too much, it cuts deep.

"We're all going through something. Can we at least try to be kinder to one another? Naman. I mean no harm to others. If you will be kind to me, and I assure you that I'll be kinder to you. Never judge someone without knowing the whole story. You may think you understand, but you don't."
